The International Youth Day (IYD) 2022 aims to engage young Wikimedians and the entire Wikimedia community in activities that will contribute to content related to this year's IYD theme "Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages". It will also recognize the work of diverse young people in building free knowledge in the movement.

Recognizing that there are young people in almost every Wikimedia community demonstrates the need to celebrate young peoples’ voices, actions and initiatives as well as their meaningful engagement in the movement.

The objective of this year’s International Youth Day theme, Intergenerational solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages, is to bring attention to certain barriers to intergenerational solidarity, particularly ageism, which affects young people, old people, and the society as a whole.

With this focus, we will address the content gap on youths, middle aged, women and senior citizens in politics, health and employment sector; national youth policies/programmes/action that support youth participation in politics, women presence in the health and legal sector, age-related obstacles to employment or human right issues associated with ageism and health risks posed by occupations taken by youths and senior citizens, and health issues encountered by senior citizens.
