The Intensive course on Research State of the Art and Wikipedia for PhD students (Wikipedia course for PhD students) is a one-week intense course designed to guide PhD students in contributing to Wikipedia on the topic of their research. The course aims to train PhD students about Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects, open science, copyright and plagiarism, the use of reliable and verifiable sources and writing; at the same time, the course aims to produce high-quality articles and content on Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects and to strengthening the links between academia and Wikimedia.
The course is based on the "Intensive course on Science, technology, society and Wikipedia for PhD students", designed by Politecnico di Milano and implemented for eight editions since 2016. It documents the experience of the Politecnico di Milano, produces a replicable syllabus, and tests in February 24-28, 2025 a new edition at the Institute of Design of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI).
Meetings and interviews will take place online on the BBB BigBlueButton room Open Science, provided by Wikimedia Italia; they are recorded and released under CC BY-SA 4.0.
