Ilorin Wikimedia Hub/Africa Wikimedia Developer Events in Ilorin, August 2019
Ilorin Wikimedia Hub in collaboration with University of Ilorin Wikimedia Fan Club successfully held Wikimedia Developer Workshops in the month of August 2019. These events, which took place on 29th and 30th August, seek to start a developer community in Ilorin and to encourage more developers to volunteer for the Wikimedia Foundation. The mission of the Africa Wikimedia Developer Project is to create an enabling ecosystem for developers who are willing to learn and build new skills in the open space through volunteering as developers for the Wikimedia Foundation. Over 30 participants were in attendance at each of this 2-day workshop.
Details
edit- Date: Thursday, 29th August 2019 - Friday 30th August 2019
- Venue: 10F3, Block 10, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara.
- Time: 10 am
Activities
edit- Tap into the existing Ilorin Developer Community (mainly the Google Developer Group), to see if we could get some people interested in contributing to MediaWiki. It is reasonable in this sense as it's often easy for developers already contributing in the open stream to move to similar new projects.
- Use word of mouth in university institutions (to the science students/programming students/computer science) and see if we could get them interested in the movement's activities and to contribute.
- Train prospective groups of developers and motivate their continued efforts through the mailing list and WhatsApp group.
