Unfortunately, freenode’s software only allows upper and lower case Latin letters, digits, slashes, periods and hyphens in cloaks (the DNS characters). This means that if your username is not pure ascii you may run into problems. The cloak system will change these characters to - in your displayed cloak. There are then three ways round the problem.
If you use one of the following solutions, note your requested change in the comments field on the cloak request form.
- Replace your letters with phonetic Latin equivalents — for example, ß could become ss. Create a doppelganger account with the edited name — just open Special:Userlogin on your wiki while logged in as your main account and then complete the cloak request process using the doppelganger. Note in the comments field your actual username for our records.
- Replace your entire username with a phonetic equivalent — for example, Александр Сигачёв can be pronounced as Alexander Sigachov. Create a doppelganger account with the chosen name — just open Special:Userlogin on your wiki while logged in as your main account and then complete the cloak request process using the doppelganger. Note in the comments field your actual username for our records.
- Speak to a group contact — if your situation cannot be resolved by the above, abandon the request and contact the group contacts. We will try to sort you out with a proper cloak.
