Buttons for editing the whole page or a section

At Help:Editing#Start_editing, it says, "To start editing a MediaWiki page, click the Edit this page (or just edit) link at one of its edges. This brings you to the edit page: a page with a text box containing the wikitext – the editable code from which the server produces the finished page, and often called the edit box."

I'm not sure that that's completely accurate, but I don't feel confident enough to change it. From my experience, there's a link edit (not edit this page) at the top, which opens up a box to allow the editor to edit the whole page, and there are also edit buttons on the right hand side at the top of each individual section. These allow editing of the particular section, not of the whole page.

My suggestion would be "To start editing a MediaWiki page, click the edit button at the top, for editing the whole page, or the edit button at the right hand side of any section, for editing that particular section. This brings you to the edit page: a page with a text box containing the wikitext – the editable code from which the server produces the finished page, and often called the edit box."

However, because it might be different on other wikis, or because other browsers may display things differently, I don't want to change it without being more sure of what I'm doing. Cowardly Lion 03:44, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

It says "edge" instead of "top" because this depends on settings. Two ways of section editing are optional, see Help:Preferences#Editing. I agree that something about these should be added.--Patrick (talk) 08:09, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Miscellaneous style of examples

These help pages use examples of one style. With Wikipedia, users use both line spaces after a header, spaces after something like a colon or bullet, and no spaces after these, et cetera. There are multiple miscellaneous styles for the same thing in the source code. How should the help pages reflect that? We could put that information in the top reading, or modify the examples like this [1] --209.244.43.122 22:59, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

Using "class" and "rel" on anchor links

In order to add some features of microformats, it's necessary to use class and rel attributes on anchor links (especially, but not only, those in templates) (see Microformats#MediaWiki issues). Can this be done? If so, how; if not, where's the best place to submit a feature request? Pigsonthewing 19:28, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
