Gujarati Wikisource Workshop, Ahmedabad/Report

The last meetup for Gujarati Wikisource was held in 2012. After so long gap,during the Indic Wikisource Community Consultation at Kolkata, India on 24–25 November 2018,User:Sushant savla requested to conduct a Wikisource specific Workshop for Gujarati Wikisource Community at Ahmadabad. The the CIS-A2K Team planning for a workshop for the Gujarati Community in the January 2019. But community was planning a meet for Gujarati Community. But due to some unavoidable circumstance that planning was not successful. Some community member are trying to do this meetup in city of Mumbai and other for Ahmadabad. Both community later merge the meetup with Wikisource workshop in Ahmadabad. The community planned this workshop with a very short duration and CIS-A2K have tried to organised at their best effort. So CIS-A2K team conducted a workshop for Gujarati Community at Ahmadabad, Gujarat on 23 - 24 February 2019. Total 14 participants were present in this event. Some feedback can be found here. The following objectives was planning for this workshop and meetup

• To enhance the quality & skills of active Gujarati Wikisource editors
• To explain the group to Advance Wikisource tools
• To encourage Wiki librarian meet each other face to face as host after 6 year gap.

Activity

Day 0

Day 0 Most of all participants came in night or late night so we have no Day0 official discussion.

Day 1

Day 1 began with an introduction round to each other at Gujarati Vishwakosh Trust. During the introduction round, the participants briefly shared about their wiki-activities. Then wikisource worhshop session started with a brief introduction. where we have discuss what is Wikisource , Why Wikisource and its potential Scope Gujarati Wikisource Explain. Copyright Status of a Book explained.Workflow of Wikisource (Upload, Index file, OCR, Proofread,Validate, Transclution) and Indic Wikisource Stats. Hands on session was conducted on proofreading session at versus books.

Day 2

Author Dr. Dipak Bhatt and Author Saeed Shaikh re-lease their book to CCSA 4.0 license. In eveing , all participants went to Gujarati Sahitya Parisad bhavan Library with Dr Parikshit Joshi.

During the workshop and meetup some of the topics discussed/trained were:

1. Scope Gujarati Wikisource Explain.
2. Copyright Status of a Book explained.
3. Workflow of Wikisource (Upload, Index file, OCR, Proofread,Validate, Transclution)
4. Indic Wikisource Stats Explain.
5. Indic OCR Explain
6. Most used templates/best practice in Wikisource.
7. User:Sushant_salva import all most uses Gatget from Bengali Wikisource during this workshop.

Learnings

• Conduct the workshop even the low participation
• Organised a workshop/ Meetup for small community always.
