Thank you for this request.

We are glad to see you are working with the Wiki Ed Foundation and we encourage you to make use of their support in planning your workshop. Likewise, we are happy to see you are referencing the Art+Feminism resources. They have developed many useful materials for introducing people to Wikipedia, especially through the lens of feminism.

We have a couple of questions to ask about your proposal before making a funding decisions, as follows:

• Can you tell us why two people are needed for this presentation? Could it be delivered by one presenter?
• Can you please provide a username for the second presenter? This allows us to review contribution history to Wikimedia projects.

I am notifying TFlanagan-WMF, who is the Senior Manager of the Wikipedia Education Program in case he has thoughts to add or resources to suggest in response to your proposal.

Thanks for the ping, Marti! This seems like a really interesting opportunity for the two scholarship requestors. I admit I am not familiar with their work outside of this context since they work closely with our colleagues at WikiEd, but it sounds like they have strong accomplishments and some great ideas to motivate their peers at this event. The fact that the conference has invited their participation is another sound endorsement, in addition to their collaboration on other movement projects like Art+Feminism. I like the idea of taking a model that has yielded much success by our own measures, and adapting it to WikiEd's Year of Science initiative to create PSYCH+Feminism.

I know that WikiEd has the capacity to follow up with and support any new US and Canada university courses that come out of this workshop (like the estimated 10 instructors who will involve their students in PSYCH+Feminism) which is reassuring. It would be nice to get some confirmation that they are looped in on this as well -- or see if anyone from their organization will be attending the conference so everyone is synced up on this particular opportunity. @Helaine (Wiki Ed), Jami (Wiki Ed), and LiAnna (Wiki Ed): pinging to see if anyone from your organization will be at this conference next month in Chicago.

@TFlanagan-WMF: Thanks for pinging us here. Wiki Ed won't be attending the APS conference this year. We went last year and don't often attend conferences two years in a row. We have worked with Patty and Christina to help support their courses and efforts, and I believe they'll be great representatives for Wikipedia. We'll be sure to stay in touch with them. Hello Marti (WMF),

Thank you for your feedback and comments on this proposed grant!

In response to your questions, we anticipate a fairly generous crowd of attendees (anywhere from 30-70) at our upcoming workshop and wanted to ensure that we had enough "hands on deck" to assist as these new Wikipedians navigate article and sandbox spaces for the first time. A more traditional presentation format likely wouldn't require two facilitators, but the workshop nature of this event will require a more hands-on approach from both of the facilitators. We'd like our attendees to actively pull out their laptops during the workshop and help us to actively build an article (likely via sandbox). In one of our recent pedagogy conferences, at the Graduate Center, CUNY, we held a similar workshop with faculty and graduate student teachers. We quickly noted a need for at least one "floating" facilitator to help troubleshoot with attendees.

In addition, each of the presenters have slightly different experiences in implementing these types of assignments in the classroom. Dr. Brooks has used Wikipedia in higher-level courses, while I've primarily used Wikipedia in introductory courses. Based on the feedback from one of our recent presentations (Eastern Psychological Association conference), we anticipate that our audience will be interested in learning about how to effectively use Wikipedia with a variety of classroom levels and a diverse range of students.

Hello Marti (WMF),

This is wonderful news! Thank you for investing in our workshop. We are honored to represent the Wiki Education Foundation and the APS Wikipedia Initiative at the APS-STP Teaching Institute.

We have been working closely with Michael Mandiberg User:Theredproject and will be building a Wikipedia entry for the Society for the Teaching of Psychology at the workshop. We look forward to sharing our experiences with the Wikipedia community.
