Dear Wikimedia Tunisia, Thank you again for submitting your first sAPG application. We’d like to welcome you to the sAPG program and wish you good luck with your planned activities. We have completed the initial review of the grant proposal and have some questions for you to respond to:

  • We found it challenging to identify the change you want to see in your community and how the shared programs enable the change. Please elaborate and share the thinking guiding the programs.
  • We realize that you plan to host several events in person. We would like to understand if you considered running some of these events online? For instance, did you consider running the annual meet-up online? Additionally, did you assess the COVID-19 risk of running it offline?
  • We would like to understand better your experience and capacity in managing funds. What are the financial/reporting practices you will inherit to ensure the transparent usage of funds?
  • How do you see your annual plan aligning with Movement Strategy recommendations?
  • How did you engage your community in the development of the Annual Plan and this grant proposal?
  • What is the current governance structure; what processes are in place to ensure healthy and transparent governance of the user group?
  • We would also like to understand how the proposed roles overlap with those of the volunteer communities?
  • Seeing that you are requesting 3 paid roles, would you share the structures you have put in place to support the success of these roles? Would you speak to any previous experience with managing paid roles before or if this would be the first time? Also, who would the staff report to?
  • It is great to learn that you plan to place a Wikipedian in Residence within the National Heritage Institute in Tunisia. Do you have any experience in working with WiRs?

Thanks again for putting together this grant application. We look forward to your responses to move forward with the review process. Best regards,--VThamaini (WMF) (talk) 06:32, 21 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Simple APG Committee recommendation

edit

We recommend that Wikimedia Tunisia start by applying for other non-annual grants in the Wikimedia Foundation such as Rapid Grants and Project Grants.

We recommend that Wikimedia Tunisia shares more on past community engagements that have led them to the decision of applying for an annual grant. We had a challenge understanding and reconciling the proposed staff roles against the proposed programs which we also assessed as stand-alone projects and not necessarily annual programming.

Our review is that the proposed projects are better suited to be funded under Rapid or Project Grants and not yet in the Simple Annual Plan Grants program.

We would also encourage you to meet with a program officer before making the application to review your proposal in detail before the final submission.

For the committee, --VThamaini (WMF) (talk) 18:47, 17 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
