Hi Mompati Dikunwane. Thank you for your request. It is great to see that there are plans to follow up with the participants from World telecommunications and information's society day 2017. Unfortunately, $1,990 is too high for us to fund a planning meeting. Have you thought of other ways to get input on what the young women would be interested in working on during an editathon? For example, can you work with the teachers to collect their feedback through a survey? Since the last event was a very basic introduction to Wikipedia and account creation, the next logical step would be having them learn the basics of editing, gathering resources, and identifying topics they would be interested in working on.

Also, I am sorry the six account creation limit was a challenge during the last event. Please read this page which gives information on how to avoid this problem in the future. Best, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 04:55, 4 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi Alex Wang (WMF) , thank you for your comments, it really makes sense. Let me approach them and try to get a survey on what they will like to cover on the next edit a thorn which means I Will have to change this request to an edit a thorn. Let me email one of the teacher's I worked with during the last session regarding this matter.

Funding decision edit

Hi Mompati Dikunwane. Apologies for the delay in posting comments. It was really helpful to talk with you recently to learn about the Wikimedia community in Botswana and your efforts to engage more people. Our understanding is that you have a small group of enthusiastic volunteers who are mostly interested in photography projects. You also are organizing a virtual weekly workshop to encourage people to edit together and develop a social network of Wikimedians. Additionally, we just approved a grant to work with your local GLAM on digitizing important historical content and adding it to the Wikimedia projects. We are happy to support these initial efforts to get people excited to contribute -- through photo projects, de-stubathons, regular get-togethers (online or offline), etc.

What we have found is that working locally and engaging people on a more frequent basis (weekly or monthly), builds community more effectively than traveling far distances to do one-off trainings and events. The connection you made with Girls in ICT at the World Telecommunications and Information's Society day 2017 is very promising. However, being able to effectively engage this group would require a lot more effort in terms of time and resources than a single training day. Given the limited capacity of your group of Wikimedians to take on lots of different projects in different cities, we would like to see you focus locally on the projects that are already underway. Please let us know if you have questions. Best, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 21:29, 3 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

Questions on your request edit

Hello Mompati Dikunwane, thank you for resubmitting this grant request. However, I don't see any changes you've made since Alex left comments on this page September of last year. Can you please clarify how you're addressing her questions in the new proposal? Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 08:21, 21 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Not Funded edit

Hello Mompati Dikunwane, thank you for your efforts in trying to bring this project to Masunga Village. We have not heard from you since I posted questions on August 21. Therefore, I am marking this project as not funded because our many offline and online conversations have not answered the question on how this project will be sustained past the initial event. I am sorry that we are unable to fund this project and I hope we will continue to partner on other events in Botswana closer to your residence. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 21:49, 6 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello ̊ WJifar (WMF), I am sorry You haven't heard from me because i was busy doing some other things here. its okay we will try to find sponsors for this project like organise some fund raising activities because we cannot just leave this project on hold just like that. Are you saying that we shouldn't conduct outreach activities in places that are far from our residences? If so then how are we going to have more people from other places of the country contributing to free knowledge. I can still assign this project to someone closer to the place where this project is conducted, you can always give them the funds to do this project. I see this as a waste of the funds used to do the awareness programme then later on we have it stopped just like that. Thank you so much for your comments and concerns on this proposal
