Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Wikimedians of Nepal/Wiki Loves Earth 2019 in Nepal

Application received edit

Hi, Nabin K. Sapkota and Nirmal Dulal! Thank you for submitting this rapid grant request. We have received a high volume of requests, which may delay our review. We appreciate your patience and will respond to your request as soon as possible. In the meantime, I have one piece of feedback:

  • We've been encouraging all our grantees to scale back on t-shirts. We have recognized that they are high-cost items with low-impact and are also not as inclusive as other items, since you're limited in getting specific sizes for participants.
    • Would it be possible to replace this item in your budget ("Special prizes") with some other form of prize that is both lower cost and more inclusive (pins, stickers, water bottles, mugs, etc.).
    • In the "Felicitation and Award Ceremony" category would it be possible to reduce the number of t-shirts from 15 to 5 and limit them only to staff? You could, perhaps, give a different gift to jury members as a thanks for their participation.

Please check this page for additional comments and questions as we review the application and please feel free to reach out to us with questions; we are here to help with a successful grant application! Best regards, LSmith (WMF) (talk) 01:07, 17 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi LSmith (WMF), thanks a bunch for your aforementioned queries and suggestions, I've done the required changes in the budget table, please confirm and let me know anything needed to be changes or modified further. Regards--Nabin K. Sapkota (talk) 07:51, 17 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Nabin K. Sapkota! Giving out photo frames is a wonderful idea! I'm sure the participants will be proud of the photos they take, and giving them a nice way to display them is thoughtful. Thank you also for adjusting the number of t-shirts for volunteers. We will respond with a decision as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience in the meantime! Further comments from WMF edit

Hello, Nabin K. Sapkota, Nirmal Dulal; thank you for submitting this grant request and for making the adjustments requested by LSmith (WMF). We are excited to see a new edition of Wiki Loves Earth in Nepal after the success of the last one.

In the report for Wiki Loves Earth 2018 in Nepal, you mentioned a partnership with Facebook group Nepalese in Photography to promote participation in the contest. Will you partner with them again this year? As we get ready to approve your grant, we encourage you to make a more detailed plan with specific groups and partnerships in question 2 of your activities (“How will you let people know about the contest?”)

Looking forward to your response, MMontes (WMF) (talk) 13:47, 2 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi MMontes (WMF), thanks for your aforementioned queries and comments. Regarding your queries on:
  • Will you partner with photography groups again this year?
- Yes, we're in communication with the Photography groups and enthusiast to collaborate in the event. Individual enthusiasts as also interested to join photo walks to contribute.
  • How will you let people know about the contest?
- As we already mentioned and practicing to avoid the use papers and other print related communication mediums. We've focused on communicating about the contest via Social media, digital contents, email, photo walks, photo ride and mouth to mouth marketing by the Wikipedians. We've already started communicating via all the medium possible and planned to do even more by Photowalks and Photo ride session. - Nabin K. Sapkota (talk) 09:12, 4 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
