Hi Azogbonon, thanks for submitting this grant request. It’s great to learn that you are planning to run a promotional campaign and editathons in North Benin. I have reviewed your application and have a few questions:

• Could you please change the sharing options, so that the Risk Assessment Tool is accessible to everyone through the link? Currently I don’t have access to view it.
  • Is this grant requested on behalf of Wikimédiens du Bénin User Group? Are you or Ross holding any leadership positions at any Wikimedia affiliate?
  • You mentioned that your main target groups would be pupils and students. How will you make sure that they contribute quality content to the Wikimedia projects?
  • How will you provide Kiwix to participants? Do you have any experience in working with Kiwix?
  • For those who don’t have internet access, how will you make sure that they continue working with offline Wikipedia?
  • In your budget you have Internet expenses for two months. Could you provide more details about this item? Is it for organizers or for all participants?
  • You also mentioned that you would use sanitary protection kits, but I could find this cost in your budget. Could you please explain why?

Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 08:04, 27 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi DSaroyan (WMF) (talk), Thank you for helping us with this campaign. We have seen your comments and have responded to them:

• We have chosen these target groups because with a good leveling and training, they will be able to contribute to the projects. Apart from that, we rely mainly on their teachers, especially the computer science teachers, who, once we are done, will be the resource persons on whom the students will rely. They will also contact us when they have questions. Moreover, the learners will not work or propose individual articles, everything will be done via the wiki clubs under the aegis of the teachers.

• This grant is not on behalf of the Wikimédiens du Bénin User Group even though I am a member of the Board and Ross a member of the group. This project is very important to us because we grew up and went to school in the North of Benin and more precisely in Kandi. So for us the goal is to share our knowledge with our young brothers and sisters and show them that they can also become like us great contributors and not just consumers.

• Before leaving Cotonou, we will download Kiwix and also contents for offline consultation with Kiwix (the entire Wikipedia in French, with images in ZIM format) and put it on an external hard drive). Once there, we will show them how to use it even offline. We will then share the files with the participants and also leave a copy with the computer teachers of the colleges we visit. And Personally, we have already worked with Kiwix. It started just out of curiosity and turned out to be very important when we find ourselves traveling in areas where the internet is slow or non-existent on our computers or smartphones.

• we will set up a system (whatsapp group and phone calls) that allows us to periodically sync what they have produced and it is the teachers who will give us this monthly update. For example, if they work offline during the days of the wiki clubs, once a month, the teacher will give us an feedback of the work, which we will check and improve if necessary.

• The internet connection is for the training days and it is the participants who will use it. Two months because the campaign runs over this period and the dates were chosen according to the availability of learners and their schools. We start on May 24 and one month of internet will cover the period from May 24 to June 23, so two trips. The second month's connection will cover the third wave of training.

• You didn't see the cost of the health kits because we will provide them ourselves. This is part of the material contributions we are making to ensure that this wiki tour goes well.

We are at your disposal if you have any other comments or questions.

Hi Azogbonon, thanks so much for your detailed response.
  • As a Board member of Wikimédiens du Bénin User Group, you cannot apply for this grant in your capacity as an individual. The reason for this is because there is substantial ambiguity in meaningfully separating one's role with an affiliate in a leadership role and one's individual capacity outside of that role. This grant should be credited to Wikimédiens du Bénin User Group because you are holding a leadership position in the User Group and another UG member is involved in the project. So, please add the UG's name to the probox. Otherwise, I'll have to mark this grant as ineligible for funding.
