Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Ptinphusmia/Wiki for Human Rights 2021 in Nigeria
Comments from DSaroyan (WMF)
editHi Ptinphusmia, thanks for submitting this Rapid Grant proposal. We are glad that you are running the #WikiForHumanRights campaign in Nigeria. I have reviewed your proposal and have a few questions:
- Are you going to run two editathons only for the UN staff members? Did these staff members confirm their participation?
- Are you in touch with the UN? Did they allow you to run these events at their office?
- Could you please provide more details on the need for air travel? How many organizers will be traveling to the event location?
Looking forward to your response. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 10:45, 14 April 2021 (UTC)

editThank you, DSaroyan (WMF) for your comments and taking time to review this grant.
Given that #WikiForHumanRights is a collaborative project between the Wikimedia Foundation and United Nations, we have reached out to UN arms in Nigeria, UNIC and UN Environment Program with the assistance of Alex Stinson and Olivia Bonner (Environmental Law Specialist at UN Environment Program, Nairobi, Kenya) to solicit for the provision of an event space and staff to be engaged in training and edit-a-thon during the event. So far, United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Lagos replied demanding for further details of the project and proof of foundation's Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration showing they are legally registered and permitted to run their operations in Nigeria. We have informed Wikimedia Nigeria who is on the verge of making this provisions to UNIC. We are also reaching out to Swedish Embassy in Nigeria, through the support of Wikimedia Nigeria for the same purpose. So we are very certain, a space for the event will be provided by one of the aforementioned organizations.
We are also reaching out to Environment focused organizations to work with them to send their staff who are young people to be engaged in the 1 day training and 1 day edit-a-thon. So this will come handy if the staff of the listed UN Organizations are not able to join in the event.
We have two organisers for this project in Nigeria namely Euphemia and James who resides in Owerri, Imo State and Ilorin, Kwara State respectively. Whereas, the proposed location for the training and edit-a-thon is Lagos or Abuja. Abuja or Lagos is minimum of 10 hours from the locations of the organizers by road but about 1 hour 30 minutes by Air. Ptinphusmia (talk) 19:31, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
Request for project end date extension
editHi DSaroyan (WMF),
This is to request for a project end date extension given the expected transfer date of the funds is after my grant end date. Therefore, I wish to change the start and end date to now be from 15th May to 15th June, 2021 respectively. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ptinphusmia (talk)
