Comments from DSaroyan (WMF) edit

Hello Omorodion1 thanks for submitting your Rapid Fund request. We have reviewed your application and have a few questions and comments:

  • We can see that you have some editing concerns shared on your discussion pages on English Wikipedia. Do you have relevant experience to train people on English Wikipedia?
  • Could you confirm that all these issues listed on your talk page are now resolved?
  • Do you have other experienced editors for this event who have more experience in working on English Wikipedia?
  • You mentioned that you would have 10 experienced participants. Could you please add their usernames to the proposal page?
  • Have you discussed with the university to get a free hall for the training?
  • We think that 130 USD is too much for internet data for training. Training does not usually involve heavy editing, so 50 - 100 USD should be fine. Please make these adjustments to your budget.
  • Please remove branded masks from your budget and offer simple masks instead.
  • We also want to understand if you follow up with the participants from your past events? How many of them continue editing? What will you do, so that some participants of this event continue editing on Wikimedia projects?

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 15:46, 26 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

My Response edit

Thank you DSaroyan (WMF) for taking time to review my grant request. kindly find below my response to your comments/query.

  • I have experience in training people on Wikipedia editing in the English Wikipedia. Aside being the organizer of the Open Semester Training for staff and students of Samuel Adegboyega University project, I have trained other individuals on Wikipedia editing. In fact, I facilitated the Wikipedia Training and Edit-a-thon at the University of Port Harcourt and it yielded great success. You can view the project metrics here. Additionally, Kaizenify has confirmed that he will be available to join the project and I have now added his username to the grant proposal page. He is an experienced Wikimedian whose wealth of experience will be of great benefit to this project.
  • I can confirm that the issues raised on my talk page have been resolved to the best of my ability. I should add that at the time I started editing Wikipedia, I had no mentors. In-fact, there are no known Wikimedia community in most part of the South-south region of Nigeria, so I had to learn most of the things I learnt on my own. I am a better Wikimedian now than I was in 2020. This is also why I am focused on building a team of active Wikimedia editors in Edo State.
  • Kaizenify will also join this project and he is an experienced Wikimedian.
  • Apart from the organizers, most of the participants are newbies. I earlier quoted 10 participants for the `Number of repeat participants` for the project. I thought this referred to the number of participants who will be participating in the two day event and not just one day. I have however removed the figure to avoid further confusion on my part.
  • As stated in the grant proposal, I will be partnering with the Nigerian Library and Information Science Students` Association of Ambrose Alli University. The association have not been able to secure a suitable venue for the training. Hence the need to rent a space for the training.
  • I have adjusted the budget for the Internet Data for training to 80 USD.
  • I have removed branded nose mask from the budget and I have now adjusted the budget to reflect this change. We will be using simple nose mask.
  • I follow up with the participants from the past event. We still have an active Whatsapp group we use for communication and mentoring. I am currently planning to have a Wikimedia fan club here, as I believe it will be easier for us to have monthly physical meet-ups if we have an approved Wikimedia Fan Club. We will commence the fan club once the school gives approval. This will be in addition to the virtual meetings and mentoring that will be done on Whatsapp as all participants for this project will be onboarded in a Whatsapp group.

I hope have answered your query. Regards Omorodion1 (talk) 21:52, 26 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
