Request to use remaining funds for Wikibase training for Nigerian Librarians edit

Dear Davit,

I write to request for permission to use the excess funds (USD 120) from this project for a planned virtual Wikibase training for Nigerian Librarians. The event is being organized by the Nigerian Library Association, Edo State Chapter, in partnership with the Wikimedia Deutschland. We plan to provide internet data reimbursement for atleast 40 participants at the rate of USD 3 per participant, thereby amounting to USD 120. I will be most grateful if this request is approved. Report of the Virtual Training on Linked Open Data and Wikibase for Nigerian Librarians edit

Hello DSaroyan (WMF), Kindly find the report below.

The Nigerian Library Association, Edo State Chapter, in partnership with the Wikimedia Deutschland, organized a virtual training on Linked Open Data and Wikibase for Nigerian Librarians as part of activities lined up to celebrate this year`s International Access Week.

The event started at about 11:10am Nigerian Time and lasted for about 90mins. With about 90 participants in attendance, was considered a huge success as the facilitators were able to enlighten the participants on Linked open Data, Wikidata and the application of Wikibase in Libraries. The facilitators gave notable examples of Libraries already leveraging on Wikibase technology, with the German and French National Libraries being notable examples.

It should be noted that even though the event was organized for Nigerian Librarians, there were also participants from other countries such as Kenya, Ghana, South Africa and India.

DATA REIMBURSEMENT: Data was reimbursed to about 80 participants after the event. Although, the initial budget for data reimbursement was for 40 participants at the rate of USD 3 per participant, we were however, able to reimburse data to 40 more participants (80 in total) with support from the Nigerian Library Association, Edo State Chapter. We could not reimburse data to the foreign participants as there was no provision for it.

LIMITATION: Although the event was considered a huge success, there were however, some limitations: 1. Some participants had difficulty understanding some of the technical terms in the during and advocated for a in-person Workshop were they can be trained on Wikidata and Wikibase 2. We could not offer data support for foreign participants because of limited funding 3. The duration for the event was not enough for hands-on training.

THE WAY FORWARD : Given that the participants for this event were from different libraries, it will be helpful if we can have an in-person Workshop for Librarians were they can learn more on Wikidata, Wikibase and Wikibase.cloud. This will go a long way in ensuring that libraries in Africa are able leverage on these technologies.
