Application received edit

Hi, Olaniyan Olushola! Thank you for submitting this rapid grant request. We have received a high volume of requests, which may delay our review. We appreciate your patience and will respond to your request as soon as possible.

Please check this page for additional comments and questions as we review the application and please feel free to reach out to us with questions; we are here to help with a successful grant application! Best regards, LSmith (WMF) (talk) 00:17, 14 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

@LSmith (WMF): It says Applications are accepted between the 1st and 15th of each month and decisions are made by the end of that month. Please look at the proposed time frame of the project and please don't let it fail because of inactivity, not matter of the high volume. Thank you. --Gereon K. (talk) 07:38, 12 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Gereon K., thank you for checking in. We are doing our best to review every application in a timely manner, but I cannot guarantee a date by which a program officer will be able to review this one. (I am not a program officer and cannot make funding decisions.) I have reminded our program officers about this application and they will review it as soon as possible. Comments from WMF edit

Hello, Olaniyan Olushola; thank you for submitting this request and for your patience with our review process.

We have a few questions about your proposal:

1) We notice that the highest cost item is related to travel. We think this is contrary to promoting local leadership and ownership over this effort. Are there no local users who would be willing to facilitate this event?

Wikimedia and its related projecst is relatively new in Nigeria. One of the key roles that i and some of our communuty members are doing is to take Wikimedia available in all the 36 states in Nigeria. At the moment, we have introduced Wikimedia to Lagos, Oyo, Abuja,Kwara, Ekiti and Kano states. In each of this places, we have identified a leader who is in charge of Wikimedia project. The project in question will be taking place in Ogum State (at the moment, we don't have any presence at the state). Our plam is to use the grant to identify a new Wikimedian among the Librarians who will take over the project in the state. We also plan to establish, Wikimedia Fan Club at the university.

2) If the twenty participants will be recruited inside the Federal University, then why would fliers be needed for this event?

The mentioned figure is only a minimum target.in fact, being an academic environment we are expecting more than the budgeted figure. Also, In academic environment, one of the many ways to show seriousness of the organizers of a project is the use of Fliers to create awareness.

3) What is the purpose of renting a camera?

Our plan is to produce quality photos from the event for documentation. And only the use of Camera can achieve this purpose.
  1. Can you give us an idea of what the event will cover on the three days you anticipate? What will be the agenda?
Day 1

Since majority of the participants are new to Wikipedia, Day1 will focus on Wikipedia Theory:

  • Brief Introduction to all Wikimedia projecrs
  • Introducstion to Wikipedia/Wikipedia for Beginers ( Focus on how to create a new article)
  • The Use of Library Resources to improve Wikipedia articles (Citation)
  • Navigating Wikipedia with the help of The Wikipedia Adventure
Day 2
  • The use of Citation Hunts for improving Wikipedia articles
  • Wikimedia Commons Licenses (Creative Common Licenses) with case studies and relevant examples
  • How to Upload contents on Wikimedia Commons
Day 3
  • Revision of the 2 previous Days
  • Introduction to Wikidata
  • Introduction to Query Services on Wikidata with a focus on the use of SPARQL
  • The relevance of Wikidata in searching for relevant imformation

Once we receive your response, our review time will be much quicker. Regards, MMontes (WMF) 14:45, 19 April 2019‎

The workshop has been organized with our fund. edit

Hi @MMontes (WMF):, thank you for the amazing work that you are doing here. We understand that there are a lot of backlogs to be addressed by your team but this grant has waited for too long. We, therefore, wish to inform you that we have gone ahead to execute this project because we have waited for too long for the grant to be approved. Moreso, this partnership is an avenue to start Wikipedia-Libary partnership the first of its kind in Nigeria. We are quite aware of the consequences of our inability to meet up with our commitment to any non-Wikipedian organisation in Nigeria. Hence the reason for sourcing for the fund to finance the project.

We will be glad to know how the foundation can assist with the reimbursement of the amount spent on the execution of the project.

You can see our preliminary report below:

We are willing to provide full Expenditure report of the project.

@MMontes (WMF):,thank you inanticipation of your reply.

Proposal declined edit

Hi Olaniyan Olushola. This proposal has been declined. Unfortunately, we cannot provide grant funding for projects for which spending has been done prior to approval, or project-related work has already been completed. While I recognize that the time it takes for us to review proposals is substantial and complicates planning, please wait to begin the proposed work until review has been completed. If waiting to begin a project is not practical or possible, this will sometimes means that we will not be able to fund every possible opportunity. We are working to make changes to Rapid Grants so that there is better predictability about when to expect proposals to be reviewed. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 03:58, 16 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
