Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Nirmal Dulal/Wiki Loves Earth 2020 in Nepal

Comments from WMF edit

Hello Nirmal Dulal and Bijay chaurasia, thank you for submitting this Rapid Grant request. I have reviewed and and have the following comments and questions.

  • I noted that both of you are members of the Wikimedians of Nepal User Group. Please note that your user group is currently out of compliance with WMF User Group reporting requirements on the Reports page. You will need to bring the reporting requirements into compliance before we can move forward with this request.
  • Please change the grant type to "organization" and add the user group name to the probox, so that this grant will be credited to the Wikimedians of Nepal User Group.
  • When you bring the user group into compliance and this request is approved, I suggest to deduct the remaining funds to the Wiki Loves Earth 2019 in Nepal grant from this grant. Please kindly confirm it.
  • Given that this is the fourth time you are joining the WLE contest and applying for a Rapid Grant, could you please tell us what you will do differently this time?
  • How will you ensure that you won’t get similar images from the same protected areas photographed at the past WLE contests? Do you have a specific plan on how you can cover new natural sites with missing images on Commons?
  • In addition, do you have any data on how many natural reserves, protected areas, and natural monuments of Nepal already have images on Wikimedia Commons?

I am looking forward to your response. Thank you so much! DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 09:03, 5 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi DSaroyan;
  • Actually we both are from different User Group. I’m a Board member of Wikimedians of Nepal User Group and Bijay chaurasia is a member of Maithili Wikimedians User Group. As I’m a Board member of Wikimedians of Nepal User Group I just updated the UG Annual report on the Reports page, Thanks for reminding me about this :)
  • I’m applying for individual grants. But as there are two of us from different UG I can change the grant type to "Group" (let us know if you are ok with it).
  • We can see that the remaining funds of the Wiki Loves Earth 2019 in Nepal grant is going to be allocated to Grants:Conference/WikiCamp_Nepal_2020.
  • This time we are going to focus on the quality of the images rather than the number of photographs so we are collaborating with a professional photographers team. We will also Collaborate with different social media groups like Nepalese In photography Facebook Group. Besides that, we are also going to organize photo edit-a-thon, to utilize the images in the article. We have collected email addresses of participants or users from past events that were organized in Nepal. So from this, We are planning to spread awareness of WLE 2020 through email marketing (mail chimp or any other tool).
  • There are some natural sites (ie; Tamore lake and Debi lake (located inside Chitwan National park) and Jhilmila Lake) which have no images in commons. We will prepare a list of those new natural sites of Nepal and try to get their images.
  • Yes, I think we can get those data from past WLE events.

Thank you for Support, Regards -- Nirmal Dulal (talk) 04:16, 11 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
