Application received edit

Hi, Mahveotm, thank you for submitting this new rapid grant request. We have received a high volume of requests, which may delay our reply. We appreciate your patience while we review it. In the meantime, here are a few comments and questions:

  1. Just a reminder, per our Guidelines and Criteria we do not allow grantees to give out cash prizes. I noticed your budget has an item for a $100 prize. Can you please edit the proposal to specify whether you will give a gift card, voucher, gift certificate, or item, since cash won't be possible?
  2. It looks like you're planning to have 8 events in 4 months. Will one person be in charge of planning all 8 events?
  • If so, what is your plan for ensuring that person does not get over-worked?
  • If not, do you have enough dedicated volunteers to ensure that you will be able to plan and carry out all 8 events?
  1. In your previous grant report you mentioned considering hosting some events remotely. Is that still something you are considering for this next semester?
  • If so, which events will you be hosting remotely?
  • If not, how did you decide to host in-person events instead?

Looking forward to your replies! LSmith (WMF) (talk) 02:35, 8 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi LSmith (WMF),
  1. Yes, that has been corrected. We would be giving out shoprite shopping vouchers instead. I forgot to specify that.
  2. Maybe I was a bit unclear, we'd be having 7 events (detailed here) I've got a team of volunteers who worked closely with me during previous events, they've been contacted and would be helpful for these events also. I also have as a contingency, plans to contact an event planner friend, should members of the team get unavoidably busy and are unable to help.
  3. Yes, I've considered it and would attempt to run a follow up of events via telegram. I run a telegram group where experienced Nigerian Wikipedians are members. I see possibilities of using that medium to engage in meaningful Wikipedia centred discussions. Questions that could not be answered during meetups or that arise during the course of personal editing can be asked and would be answered by any of the experienced editors online.
Warm regards,

Approval edit

Hello Mahveotm, thank you for answering my colleagues LSmith (WMF)'s questions. I especially appreciated looking at your detailed list of events. I am approving your grant request. One point of clarification, I adjusted your budget back to show $1760 USD which is the amount you need for this project. The amount we will disburse will be that amount minus the amount you have in your possession as an underspend. We do that part in the backend. So in the end we will disburse the $1385 USD but we first need to approve this grant for the full amount. Hope this makes sense. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 01:14, 27 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Request for extension of deadline edit

Please, can the deadline be shifted for 2 months? We have unfortunately been able to hold only 4 (The Photo walk, the two Mediawiki conferences and the introduction to Wikipedia) workshops out of the initially planned 7 due to time & academic constraint.

I'd love to be able to host the remaining 3 workshops this semester spreading the grant for the entire session.

Mahveotm.
