Hello Jani Pereira, thanks for submitting this complete report. It was really interesting reading about your experience and adventures at the PETAR expedition. I had an impression that I was reviewing an adventure story :) Thanks for the risks you’ve taken and for the challenges you’ve faced in order to make the information about the Alto Ribeira Tourist State Park publicly available. The photos you’ve taken are breathtaking and the contributions you’ve made to the Wikimedia projects - extremely valuable.

After reviewing your report I have some questions and comments that I would like you to address:

• This might be a bit irrelevant but how have you ensured the safety of the participants? What would you do in case of any emergency during the photowalk, for instance if that spider bit someone? Did other participants know about the risks they were exposed to?
• I’m really sorry for the damaged and lost equipment. How have you compensated this loss?
• It’s also sad that the Internet you’ve used was quite slow. For your future grants you can consider budgeting Internet costs, so that you have high speed Internet to make the edits and uploads.

Hi DSaroyan (WMF),

The project was really an adventure. We came home with lots of stories to tell!

• The safety of the participants was an important point that we have taken into consideration since the beginning of this project.

First, I invited only participants used to performing activities in nature, who knew PETAR and the risks of the activity;

Second, I divided the participants into groups according to the level of difficulty of the place, respecting the physical capacity of each one;

Third, all groups were accompanied by qualified guides from the park (they all have first aid training);

Fourth, all participants were instructed to wear appropriate clothing and footwear, and received helmet and flashlight to use in the caves, according to park safety rules;

In case of an accident, we would take the injured person directly to the nearest hospital (depending on where the accident occurred, Iporanga or Apiaí) to receive emergency care. Hospitals in cities near PETAR have anti-venomous serum for the common species in the region, produced by Butantan Institute.

• Unfortunately, we had not anticipated expenses with recovery of photographic equipment in our budget, so we could not direct funds for the repair of cameras. If there's any way we can make up for the loss of the equipment, please let me know.
• For the next projects we will be prepared and will provide internet according to the needs of the participants ;-)
