Hello Ebenezer Mlay, thank you for submitting this Rapid Grant request. We are glad that the Arusha Wikimedia community is joining the Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos contest. I have reviewed your proposal and have the following questions and comments:

  • When selecting the winners how will you make sure that the number of edits equals the number of photos added to articles?
  • How will you measure the relevance of the added photos?
  • Instead of providing participants with money to purchase internet bundles, could you please purchase the internet bundles yourself and share among participants to avoid giving cash money to them?

Looking forward to your response! Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 06:50, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello DSaroyan (WMF) , thank you for your comments. I am happy to provide answers to the questions answered as below:

  • Through using the WPWP hashtag on the edit summary we will be able to rank the contributors by the number of their contributions. Also when selecting the winners we will have to pass through the articles they have added photos to check whether the photos added are relevant to the articles.
  • We will measure the relevance of the added photos checking on the suitability of the photo on the article and how clear the photo is regarding to the article. Also through the description and caption added to the images.
  • It will be very difficult to buy mobile internet for everyone as every participant uses a different mobile internet bundle from different telecommunication companies. The mobile internet bundles may also vary from one person to another based on either the offers given to specific group of people or the companies. So providing them with money to buy the mobile internet becomes the easiest way to do this.

Let me know if I can explain anything better. Thanks! — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ebenezer Mlay (talk)

Hello Ebenezer Mlay, thanks for your responses! I'm a little bit worried about giving cash money to participants to buy internet bundles, so I have more questions in this regard:
  • How will you give the cash to the participants? Are you going to meet them in-person? Do you know all participants personally?
  • How will you make sure that participants use the funds on purpose? How will you document this expense?

Hello DSaroyan (WMF)

  • There is mobile money such as MPESA, Airtel money with which I can send money to the participants on their mobile networks. I dont know all the participants in person but most of the are the ones who participated in the past events.
  • I am planning to do the online event in small groups at a time so that it can be effective through this way I will be able to make followup for proper use of the funds. I will document this expense by getting a list of the participants who were provided with the money for the mobile internet.
