As per suggestion we added that the book will be published under a CC BY license and that we will acknowledge all funders in the front matter of the book. Bridges2Information (talk) 17:05, 7 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello Bridges2Information, thanks for submitting this comprehensive grant proposal and for the efforts you've put into planning this project. We are excited that you are going to publish a book with Maize Books about Wikimedia projects, which will promote Wikimedia projects and share the best practices of community members from all around the globe. We have reviewed your proposal and have one question in regards to the license the book will be published under:

  • Could you please specify under which CC-BY license do you plan to publish the book? Almost all books available on the website of Maize Books are shared under CC-BY-NC-ND, which is not compatible with current Wikimedia and MediaWiki practices and not acceptable for us. We'll only be able to fund this project if the book is shared under CC-BY-SA, CC-BY, or CC0.

I'm looking forward to your response. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 14:11, 15 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

We negotiated a CC-BY contract for the book, to align with Wikimedia projects. This is the direct statement from the contract we signed with MAIZE in March, 2020: "The online edition will be distributed open access via a CC-BY 4.0 license." Bridges2Information (talk) 16:46, 15 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
