Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Aristidek5maya/Projet Wikiquote Tour 2020

Comments from WMF edit

Bonjour aristidek5maya, thank you for submitting this Rapid Grant request. I have completed the initial review of it and have a few questions for you.

  • Given the recommendations posted on the discussion page of your previous grant report, what are you planning to do differently this time to ensure and promote everyone’s contributions?
  • Additionally, do you have any plans to work with the library personnel?
  • In the resources section you have mentioned that you would have your own computer with you. What about the participants? Will they have their own laptops or use the library resources?

Thank you again for your contribution to the Wikimedia Movement! Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 07:25, 21 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello DSaroyan (WMF),

To ensure and promote everyone's contributions in this new edition, we will take into account the recommendations made to us while ensuring that the number of contributions from all participants is equal. In fact, since we are targeting a quota of at least 100 quotes to download on wikiquote during the 3 months of the project, we will ensure for exemple that the 20 participants each have at least 5 contributions.

Regarding collaboration with library staff, we would not mind including them in the project if they wish. Because it is to take also this into account that we tried at the end of the first edition to negotiate a partnership with the officials of the French Institute to allow us to have access to a slightly larger room and where we could we feel comfortable for future workshops, in order to double the number of participants. But so far and despite several reminders - although their having provided the documents they requested for the drafting of the partnership agreement - the Institute asks us to be patient because according to them the partnership procedure takes enough time before to be concluded. However, for this second edition, we intend, when registering for the library of selected participants, to submit a request to the French Institute in order to have a larger and more practical room for holding our workshops. And I think that with the number of new registrants that we will bring to them, they would help us on this one, especially since it is only on Saturdays (when there are fewer people at the library) that we will organize our editathons.

As for resources, there is nothing to worry about. The library does not having computers to facilitate training sessions, we will ensure as in the first edition that all participants have a computer of their own. This is also part of the selection criteria for participants. --Aristidek5maya (talk) 13:25, 21 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

By the way, if things changed and this became a problem it might be possible to get a few suitable notebooks, completely reliant on free software, from PineBook at 100 $ each: https://store.pine64.org/?product=11-6-pinebook I'm not ready to endorse them because I've not tested them and they're not certified by FSF yet, but it's an interesting product precisely for this kind of free culture activism. Wikiquote activities edit

Nice to see activities focused on Wikiquote. I didn't have time to check closely yet, I just want to suggest to fix the typo "wiktiquote" in quarry:query/37037 so that it's easier for people to open the links. Cheers, Nemo 17:00, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

hello Nemo,

well received. Thank you. --Aristidek5maya (talk) 21:24, 26 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Postpone the activities of my grant project — Projet Wikiquote Tour 2020 edit

Hello, I hope you are well? Initially scheduled to start on May 4, 2020, the Wikiquote Tour project that I coordinate, will finally be postponed until September 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Most of the libraries are closed and classes have not yet resumed here in Côte d'Ivoire. I would therefore like to have your agreement to modify the dates of the project on meta. Thank you. Cordially. --Aristidek5maya (talk) 10:25, 6 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Request approved edit

Hello Aristidek5maya, thanks for posting your request here. I am approving it, the new end date for this grant is September 30, 2020. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 13:17, 6 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hello Davit,

Since the date advised by the Wikimedia foundation for the resumption of public activities is September 15, I would like the end date of the project to be October 30, 2020, and the deadline for the report, November 30. This will allow me to organize it better, because September 30 is a little too fair. Thanks.--Aristidek5maya (talk) 15:22, 6 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

And Regarding the use of funds, I would like to start the first expenses for a better organization, from September 1, 2020. --Aristidek5maya (talk) 15:27, 6 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Budget change request edit

Hello DSaroyan (WMF), I hope you are well?

I am writing to you to have your permission to modify the project budget, by removing the third line of the table, concerning the "rental of stand for the census day" and by reallocating the funds of 50,000 XOF, to the "transport costs and coordination "(line 6 of the table).

Indeed, due to the disease of Covid-19, and to have an advance in the recruitment of participants, we decided to proceed (for the months of May-June-July) to an online recruitment, instead of a recruitment on place as said in the project. For this, we have chosen to work in collaboration with the collective of delegates from the UFR of Languages, Literature and Civilizations (LLC) of the Félix Houphouët Boigny University in Abidjan, so that they provide us with their different platforms of communication, so that we can recruit participants online. We have contacted them, and they agree to help us.

We are therefore awaiting your agreement for the modification of the budget, in order to reallocate the funds previously intended for the rental of a stand (50,000 XOF), at the cost of coordination and transport of the project. This will allow us to organize meetings with the président of the collective of delegates from said University, for better coordination of online recruitment on their communication platforms. Cordially.--Aristidek5maya (talk) 21:21, 14 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Start of project activities and expenses edit

Hello DSaroyan (WMF), How are you? I come for inform you that we have made the first expenses for the realization of the project this Monday, May 25, 2020. The courses having resumed on all the extent of the national territory since May 25, and the libraries having started to reopen, we thus decided to proceed by stage (below) to carry out the activities of Project ; to give us the chance to collect as many quotes as possible before the editathons of the after September 15, 2020 :

First step : For the period from May to June, we will proceed to recruit participants online.

Second step : As soon as the library reopens where we have to register participants, we will register them.

Third stage : After the registrations in the library, we will bring the participants to carry out themselves personal searches for citations in works of which we will provide them with references, while my assistant and I will do the same; while not forgetting to explain to them via the internet the procedure for finding citations.

Fourth and last step : The holding of Edithathons after the date of September 15.

Cordialy.--Aristidek5maya (talk) 15:36, 29 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Information and request for authorization to use funds edit

Hello DSaroyan (WMF), I hope you are well? Here cava. We are now 10 days away from holding our Wikiquote workshops - the first will take place on Saturday, September 19 - and I would like to inform you that when registering 16 participants (students) at the Institut français, we benefited a reduction of 1000 XOF on each person registered, which saved us 16,000 XOF. I would like, if you will allow it, to use these funds (the 16,000 XOF) not only for the purchase of 1 or 2 novels difficult to find in libraries during our research and that we saw in the sidewalk bookstores; but also for the purchase of hand gel that will be used during training sessions, in accordance with the barrier measures against Covid-19. Cordially ! --Aristidek5maya (talk) 18:33, 9 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
