Hello Amuzujoe, thanks for submitting this Rapid Fund request. We are excited to learn that you plan to run a photowalk in Ghana. I have a few questions for you after reviewing the grant application:

  • Please respond to question #8 regarding in-person activities.
  • As mentioned in question #3, could you please clarify how you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal?
  • Could you please provide a list of objects and monuments that you plan to photograph during your events? How will you find out what objects to photograph?
  • Could you provide examples of articles without photos that you plan to illustrate?
  • Who will be the participants of the photowalks? Will you invite everyone or only those who have experience in photography?
  • With having twenty participants traveling to the same locations, there is a risk you will take photos of the same objects. How will you plan the photowalks, so that the participants don’t take duplicate or repetitive photos?
  • Each participant will take and upload only ~20 photos. Wouldn't it be better to run this photowalk with fewer participants? What's the need of having 20 participants during the photowalk?
  • How do you plan to train participants on Wikimedia Commons and copyright laws? Are you planning to run any related activities before or after the photowalks?
  • Could you please confirm that you will make sure that categories, descriptions, structured data, and other details of the images will be completed properly?

Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 12:09, 1 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello DSaroyan (WMF) (talk),

  • We plan on organising an upload session for 10 participants with strict adherance to the COVID 19 preventive measures.
  • We would be community members via village pump and the african mailing list. We intend to design flyers to promote the event.
  • Akosombo Hydro plant,
  • We hope to invite two experienced photographers, 3 active volunteers and 5 interested participants from the Eastern region.
  • Participants would be encouraged to take 5 pictures of a monument and the best picture will be selected for upload.
  • We intend to have 10 participants for the photowalk and upload sessions and hopefully 20 participants online to introduce participants to commons, copyright etc.
  • We plan on holding an introductory session to commons before the photowalk.
  • I confirm that I will make sure that categories, descriptions, structured data, and other details of the images will be completed properly Amuzujoe 5:27am 2 October 2021 UTC

Additional comments edit

Hello Amuzujoe, thanks for your response. Please address the following questions that you haven't responded properly.

  • Could you please provide a list of objects and monuments that you plan to photograph during your events? How will you find out what objects to photograph?
  • Could you provide examples of articles without photos that you plan to illustrate?

If you only plan to take photos of the Akosombo Hydro plant only, I don't think this a sufficient impact for this project. Dear Shahadusadik, could you please confirm that you'll be supporting User:Amuzujoe in the project implementation? Thank you, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 13:13, 4 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) below are some list of objects and monuments

  • Akwamu Old Palace
  • Umbrella Rock near Boti Falls
  • Akaa Water Falls near Akyeremateng Village in the Akuapem North District

Mostly new objects and monuments are discovered when we enback on photowalk since some of these things are hidden. Photowalk is actually a search for hidden objects and monuments and when new objects and monuments are captured articles will be created on them so the world will know and learn from.

Examples of article that is without photo is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akwamu

Not funded edit

Hello Amuzujoe, thanks for your response. I'm really sorry but I have to mark your grant as 'not funded' because your plan to run this photowalk is not clear.

  • Please do a small research in advance to identify the objects you want to photograph in the area and the articles you want to illustrate. I request that you have a clear plan before applying for a photowalk grant. Currently, it seems to me that you plan to run a photowalk but you don't have a clear plan on what you will photograph. 3 objects and 1 article to illustrate doesn't seem like a well-thought plan to me.
  • Please prepare this list of objects and articles and include them in the application. I understand that some objects are hidden but at least there should be a clear plan on where you plan to travel and why.
  • If your main purpose is to train people on Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia, your grant proposal should reflect it. In this case, please focus on the training part and not on the photowalks.
  • Finally, as I understood, you also plan to create missing Wikipedia articles. These activities should also be reflected in the grant application.

Please feel free to address these issues and resubmit your grant application next month. I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused. Let me know if you have any questions. Best, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 09:42, 18 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
