Hello Alexfope, thanks for submitting this Rapid Grant proposal and congratulations on your first Wikimedia Foundation grant! We are excited about your planned research project and appreciate your efforts put into it. I reviewed the grant application and have a few questions and comments:

  • Could you please provide a more detailed budget breakdown? Please include item descriptions, number of units, and unit prices. For instance, describe what “logistics” expense will cover, how many times, what the price of a unit is, etc.
  • Please add the target wiki (English Wikipedia) into the probox.
  • I’ve corrected the total requested amount in USD in the probox. Please confirm that it is correct.
  • Do you have any past experience in building partnerships with similar organizations or in running Wikimedia initiatives?
  • Could you please provide more information about the planned 250 articles? Do you have a prepared list of articles?
  • In the future, do you plan to engage staff members of these organizations into your initiatives too?

Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 10:00, 2 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Davit thanks for going over the proposal, I tried to answer your top two concerns within the body of the proposal. On the fourth, I have worked with libraries/librarians on a personal level before but not in Nigeria but in this situation I plan to talk with the main librarians at two of the institutions and get referred to the main librarian or top librarian at the third institution based on prior circle of relationship. On the fifth and sixth, the articles are dependent on the direction of sources. I have a personal bibliography but a main target is archival or rare materials which can provide an enlarged bibliography. Yes, I plan to engage members of these organizations into the wikimedia initiatives, there was a funded initiative with libraries in some Nigerian institutions and I hope to express wikimedia strengths to the librarians.

Thanks for the opportunity and platform.Alexfope (talk) 09:53, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Alexfope, thanks for your response! I have an additional question:

Additional comments edit

Hi Alexfope, we have a few additional questions and comments:

  • Have you talked with Wikimedia Community User Group Nigeria and other Wikimedians working with the University of Ibadan about access to sources?
  • What content do you want improve from your personal bibliography?
  • It is unclear why a shared workspace is needed if your plan is to travel to different institutions and work with their archives. Could you please provide more information about why you request funds for a shared workspace?

Looking forward to hearing from you. Best, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 10:22, 13 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi Davit, sorry for getting to you late. No I have not talked to the wikimedia group in Ibadan. In addition, I do not intend to write in the library just to access material so the space is for writing. The amount of time it will take led to to that choice. To write an article, it may take up 5 hours, so 5 x 200 =1000hrs.Alexfope (talk) 15:59, 28 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
