Feedback for Improvement

edit

Hello @Mothiram 123  Thank you for your interest in supporting your community as a Movement Charter Ambassador. We have reviewed your proposal, and have the following comments and feedback.

  • Do note, as previously shared in both the guidelines and in the example, applications exceeding $750 are not likely to be funded. We recommend the team review the project plan and budget to align with the expectations of this program.
  • In the activities section, please share the list (including links) for the pages you intend to translate for these conversations.
  • Additionally, do provide more clarity regarding the number of people you intend to hold these conversations with. It would be good to know how many community members you intend to engage with in the course of implementing this project.

As these grants are meant to enable wide community engagement, community endorsements will be taken into consideration for the final decision. Currently, you have only one. Does this mean that the  community is not informed of your intentions? Please consider including a link to a community conversation where you may already have shared your intentions with the community.

Please respond to these comments (and update your application) on or before Wednesday, the 6th of September. All the best, YPam (WMF) (talk) 10:09, 4 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello @YPam (WMF),
Thank you for your feedback. Please find my responses below:
  • The team has reviewed the application and we wanted to go ahead with the same budget. We wanted you to note that this proposal is for two languages Gondi and Kolami. My Co-Wikimedian Suraj will be organizing the conversations for Gondi and I will be hosting for Kolami. The budget is higher than the prescribed guidelines as we are doing it for two languages which are Underrepresented, marginalized and have no proper resources like translation services to look into for help. This activity also helps our communities to gather in-person to discuss and strategize plans for developing Gondi and Kolami Wikimedia projects.
    • We have updated the activities part as per your suggestion.
  • We intend to take up this conversations with 25 people (15 Kolami, 10-Gondi) from the community.
As most of our community members are new to Wikimedia we have had these conversations through online meetings and in-person at Kolami Wikipedia Community Awareness Drive held at Telangana. After your feedback we have added the information to the Village pump/Discussion pages where we are currently discussing the community aspects and ideas. -Link to conversation on Gondi Wikipedia, link to the conversation on Kolami Wikipedia.

Hello @Mothiram 123, Thank you for your application and the detailed response provided. After careful consideration, the team has decided to not approve this application. While we understand the importance of your project, the funding guidelines have set limits for this program. Your proposal, which covers two language groups and includes expenses for hosting conversations in both communities, exceeds these prescribed limits, even as a joint proposal. Note that this grant program program typically supports projects with a single ambassador who may have a supporting team. In order to adhere to our grant guidelines and ensure that there is equity in the decision-making, your proposal will not be funded at this time.
We appreciate your efforts to promote and develop underrepresented languages within the movement, and hope to be able to support your work in the future. Best, YPam (WMF) (talk) 15:05, 13 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
