Grants talk:Programs/Wikimedia Research Fund/Wikidata in the GLAM sector: a knowledge sharing approach

If possible, please keep your input concise. We'd particularly like feedback on the following questions:

  1. From what perspective or in what role are you providing your input? (For example: a Wikipedia editor, a representative of a Wikimedia chapter, a member of a regional committee)
  2. In what ways do you think this research can support members of the Wikimedia communities in their work on Wikimedia projects?
  3. Is there a particular project or affiliate in your country/region/project that can benefit from the result of this research and/or you recommend that the applicants seek to coordinate or collaborate with? If so, please provide details including the name of the project or affiliate and a short description of the relevance of the proposal to the needs of the affiliate or project.
  4. Do you have any other comments or feedback you would like to share with the Research Fund chairs?

  • Wikidata is going to be a reference cornerstone for linked data interoperability, to me it's a fact.
  • For the OpenGLAM | GLAM Wiki community it's happening.
  • In this GLAM context Wikibase adoption is gaining momentum, and the Wikibase - Wikidata synergies are obvious to me too.
  • The proposal addresses some the biggest digital humanities communities these days, Europeana and DARIAH, which are really well funded. They can be familiar with Wikidata, but we need more effort promoting the Wikimedia Movement there for the mutual benefit.
  • These communities and the European Commission funding calls are keys to diverse the R&D funding for Wikimedia GLAM projects. This proposal should be another approach to look for future project consortia participated by Wikimedia affiliates, Wikimedia contributing organizations and traditional GLAM institutions.
  • The proposer has strong research experience and deep knowledge of technologies for GLAM.
  • Finally, it's absolutely synergic with the spirit and goals of the SMALL GLAM SLAM Pilot 1.
