Response requested edit

Hello Umar-askira, thanks for submitting this grant request. We have reviewed it and we will consider it for partial funding if the following requests are addressed:

  • We will not fund 460 USD for the space. Given that the project is planned at a university, we request that you reach out to the university and get the space free or with a substantial discount. We are happy to support any office maintenance costs. Additionally, we request that you organize the activities directly at the educational institution. Please make the requested changes and confirm that activities will be at the institution.
  • We will not support expenses for 10 facilitators given the project description and impact. Please reduce this number to 5 maximum and make corresponding changes to the budget.
  • Update your responses to questions 19-20 with the final amount requested.
  • Note that starting from this Rapid Fund round, the grant payment will be made in your local currency only.
  • It is not clear whether the project is held for two days as identified in the main core metrics or 3 days as identified in the third question. Please clarify this in the metrics or in question 3.

Please make indicated changes on Fluxx. Log in to the Grantee Portal and you will see your application in the 'Proposals need attention' section. Edit and re-submit your application by November 6, 2022.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks for your time, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 11:08, 31 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi DSaroyan (WMF), hope you are doing great and all is well. Thank you for reaching out to me once more again.
My Answers:
  • I have updated the number of facilitators to 5.
  • I have confirmed that the events will hold for 2 days as you requested in the Q3.
  • I also updated the space amount, I prefer to go for discount because the school will request for maintenance and the other recommended fees that is why I prefer to go for discount at least it will look more efficient to the school authority.
  • I have make changes in question 19-20

  • I also confirmed that the event will hold in the Institution because as a I got your request notification, I consulted the Head of Computer science/computer Engineering department to notify him about the project, after the project been approved, I will write a formal letter addressing the Institution's Authority requesting for the render of the event.
  • Regarding the funds that the grant committee are deciding to fund in my local currency, is a very nice and welcome idea. But am afraid of the persistent rises of USD against NGN that is currently happening. because when I applied for the grant on:
1: 15th September 2022 $1 USD = NGN 422.63.
2: 25th September 2022 $1 USD = NGN 430.05.
3: 30th September 2022 $1 USD = NGN 431.39.
4: 5th October is 2022 $1 USD = NGN 433.69.
5: 15th October 2022 $1 USD = NGN 433.68.
6: 31st October 2022 $1 USD = NGN 437.48
and today
1st November 2022 $1 USD = 438.14 according to OANDA [[1]] currency rates. The question is, WHAT WILL HAPPEN TOMORROW and in the next 22 Days?
With the above reasons, I will like to advise the grant committee to recommend my reasons and fund the grant in USD to avoid unwanted budgetary changes that might occurred before the funds arrived and during my report period. The problem we are facing with change in currency increments is, the prices of good and services increase according to the law of change in currency. And my bank details on Fluxx are for dollar account. And I opened the account purposely for Wikimedia projects funds (grants).

Not funded edit

Hello Umar-askira,

Thank you for submitting your grant application. We appreciate your interest in contributing to the mission of the Wikimedia Movement. We are continuously strengthening our grants review process, ensuring that grant funding is being invested towards impactful projects and efforts geared towards contributing to the mission of Wikimedia Movement in the most efficient and effective manner.

Here is the main reasons for our decision:

  • We have requested to update the detailed budget, so that the requested amounts in the detailed budget matches the requested amounts in the grant request (questions 19-19.3). However, after sending back the application three times, the amounts listed are still different. The applicant requests 2115 USD (871,508.96 NGN) with a detailed budget for 1,586.82 USD (693,950 NGN) and didn't fix this mismatch after several requests.

Hi DSaroyan (WMF), thank you for your time and endeavors to review my grant application to the final stage. It is highly unfortunate for the project been NOT FUNDED! I don't really get it right that you mean the initial budget. Even though when I applied for the project, the rate of USD to NGN till the period when you requested for changes from the budget sheet was being unbalanced due to the persistent rises of US Dollar against NiNaira. I have made the changes and converted the budget according to the current rates of USD and When I applied for the project the 1 USD = 423 NGN while when you request for changes to be made, 1 USD = 437 and the changes of prices where made because I recommended the changes in prices of good and services. Another reason why I used the current rate is because the grant committee will pay in local currency instead of USD which I don't know why the grant committee decided to do so. But at least the committee should have highlighted the reason of that decision so that I understand. Although I know the committee are trying to to see everything is going well. Thanks for your time and pleasure to meet you in the future project. Best regards. Umar-askira. Umar-askira (talk) 05:16, 11 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello Umar-askira, thanks for adding your feedback here. I sent it via email but let me clarify this here too. The amount you requested on your detailed budget is 693,950 NGN or 1,586.82 USD but on your proposal it is 871,508.96 NGN or 2115 USD. I contacted you a few times in the past to fix the mismatch. Even with different currency rates or swings the amount you request on your application and on the detailed budget should match at least in one currency (NGN or USD). However, there is currently a huge difference ~529 USD which is not connected to the currency rate difference. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 10:27, 11 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
