Support edit

I support this project for two main reasons;

1. Librarians who were trained under the Wikipedia in African libraries course run by AfLIA are coming of age in the Movement and want to share what they learned with members of their user communities all over Africa. I always support them because it means that the impact of the AfLIA project keeps on growing.

2. Getting African academics into the Wikimedia Movement is a goal for all Africans wikimedians as it would mean a critical mass of scholars who are used to writing and who will now be contributing in creating African content in Wikimedia projects. Not funded edit

Hello Meritkosy, thank you for submitting your grant application. We appreciate your interest in contributing to the mission of the Wikimedia Movement. We are continuously strengthening our grants review process, ensuring that grant funding is being invested towards impactful projects and efforts geared towards contributing to the mission of Wikimedia Movement in the most efficient and effective manner.

After reviewing your application, we have decided to not fund your Rapid Fund request. Here are the main reasons for our decision:

  • Budget alignment: The proposed budget does not align with the described activities and overall project impact. Your application needs to have a reasonable budget that is aligned with your context. We recommend considering Wikimedia Nigeria User Group microgrants for this project.
  • Project plan and overall impact: The project plan and focus are unclear.

Hello Davit,
I trust you are doing good and this message meets you well.
I appreciate your assessment of my project proposal. The focus area is librarians - in most cases, librarians are also academics - and the library students in the college community.
The librarians and library students in the college community are the primary target, but other potential participants are welcome.
I will be glad to review the budget in areas you deem fit. You can kindly suggest areas that need review, and I will be glad to do so.
Furthermore, this project aims to prepare librarians in the college for maximum participation in this year's 1Lib 1 Ref. There have been a good number of librarians participating from other parts of this country(Nigeria) but little or no adequate participation of librarians has been recorded from Northern Nigeria. This project will help recruit more librarians and library students in the region into the Wikimedia movement in general and prepare them for participation in the forthcoming 1Lib 1Ref campaign.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
