Wikidata 10th birthday celebration in Kenya? I support this proposal

Wikidata activities are spreading across Africa. The project lead is a Librarian and an active community organizer for the Kenyan Wikimedia community. As guest speaker for this program, I will help the organizers in any way possible to ensure that they deliver well. Therefore, I endorse this grant proposal. Feedback from Middle East and Africa regional funds team

Hi Ngangaesther, thank you for submitting your grant application. After reviewing your grant proposal, we have some recommendations and requests for the project and planned activities.

• We are concerned that there are no local experienced Wikimedians in the team who will lead the Wikidata training sessions. Our understanding is that there is no one in the local organizing team who has experience with Wikidata. Therefore, Sadik Shahadu and Alice Kibombo will lead the training sessions by joining online.
• Given that the trainers will join online and there is no experienced trainer to guide the process onsite, we request to reduce the project scope to either one virtual event, or one hybrid (virtual + offline) event. We think that the presented scope of work can be done in one day. We made this decision also considering the community consultation and possible burnout of volunteers.
• Given the above-mentioned change and overall impact, we request reducing the project budget accordingly.
• We request that you discuss and align any future projects with the broader Kenyan community and ongoing projects in the community. More experienced Wikimedians in the community need to take an active role in these projects.
• Please make requested changes on Fluxx. Please log in to the Grantee Portal and you will see your application in the 'Proposals need attention' section. Please edit and re-submit your application by September 28, 2022. Let me know if you need more time to make these changes.
