Grants talk:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/Wiki Loves Africa Photowalk Climate and Weather 2023 in Ghana (ID: 22022817)

Feedback from MEA regional funds team edit

Dear kwameghana and amuzujoe, I'm reaching out to you on behalf of the Middle East and Africa regional funds team. We have completed the initial review of your Rapid Fund requests for this cycle:

During the initial review process, we discussed the proposals in the team and with relevant Wikimedia affiliates. We recognize and appreciate your contributions to the Movement and Wiki Loves Africa contest. However, we think that both of these projects are covering similar activities in the same region. We are contacting you with a request to join the efforts and merge both grant proposals in order to ensure collaboration, coordination and avoid duplication of efforts.

  • We are sending both applications back to you. Please discuss the proposals and move one of them to the "Withdrawn" state. Another one can be resubmitted with updates and requested changes.
  • Please discuss and share the responsibilities of the proposed photowalks and other related activities in one single proposal. Perhaps, you can share the responsibilities to run the photowalks in mentioned subregions.
  • For all photowalks, we will not approve a scenario when both of you participate in all of the photowalks. Moreover, we will not move forward if it is the same group joining all photowalks. We request that you set up a transparent process for the selection of photowalk participants. We think that it is important to ensure that any community member who has the required skills has an opportunity to participate in one of the photowalks, especially if they are geographically closer to that specific area.
  • We also request that you provide a more detailed plan for the photowalks. It is unclear why traveling to these areas is important given that the scope for this year's WLA is Climate and Weather. What exactly do you plan to photograph in these regions that will be valuable for Wikimedia projects? Are there anything else that you would like to document aside from climate, weather, and climate change related objects?
  • It is also unclear why you couldn't involve local active community members and there is a need to run these photowalks from Accra. Could you also add more details about this to your grant proposal?
  • You will also need to update a few other questions regarding the team, responsibilities, targets, budget, and communication. I think question 4 needs to only include Wiki Loves Africa.
  • Please make indicated changes on Fluxx. Log in to the Grantee Portal and you will see your applications in the 'Proposals need attention' section. Edit and re-submit one of the applications by January 8, 2022.

Thanks again for your work on the proposals. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 06:24, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
