Grants talk:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/WikiVibrance in South Sudan 2022 (ID: 21912709)

Comments from MEA regional funds committee and staff edit

Hi Lomoraronad, thank you for submitting your grant application. After reviewing your grant proposal, we have some questions to learn more about the project and planned activities.

  • We think that the requested expenses are high from what we usually fund. We recommend 3,000 USD for this project given the project's impact. Please reduce the expenses accordingly. This will also let you apply for another Rapid Fund project in this fiscal year. The total grant value an organization or group can access annually in terms of the Rapid Fund program is up to USD 10,000.
  • How did you inform the Wikimedia community of South Sudan or others in your User Group about the planned project and activities?
  • How many Edit-a-ton do you plan to organize for this project and how many of the expected 30 participants do you plan to retain for long-term contributions? Could you tell us how you plan to retain them?
  • What articles do you plan to focus on? Could you please give a few examples?
  • You mentioned in the application that you would work with external partners, but you do not name them. Could we know who these partners are?
  • In the core quantitative metrics, you say that there will be 20 new contributions to Wikipedia. What exactly are we talking about? Does that mean that you will create 20 new Wikipedia articles?
  • Can we know a bit more about the rewards for the winners please? Will you give prizes in cash or in another form?

Please respond to our questions on the talk page. Make the budget adjustments on Fluxx. Please log in to the Grantee Portal and you will see your application in the 'Proposals need attention' section. Please respond to our question and update the budget by August 14, 2022. Let us know if you need more time to respond to questions.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks for your time, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 11:44, 11 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

1. Yeah sure, Thanks, I will change the budget size to 3000USD, thanks for the recommendation
How did you inform the Wikimedia community of South Sudan or others in your User Group about the planned project and activities?
We had a meeting several times, with the Community from the choosing of the designing of the project to even the recent represntation we had at the Wikimania event we have been very close with the commnity members on planning the #Wikivibrance in South Sudan.
How many Edit-a-ton do you plan to organize for this project and how many of the expected 30 participants do you plan to retain for long-term contributions? Could you tell us how you plan to retain them?
We plan to honestly have 2 editathons and we expect to retain atleast 25 of the members cause from our just past training before wikimnaia we trained 27 members and retained 26 which we felt was a great retaining power cause we managed to use prizes and competitive editathons that retained members but later members managed to become commited volunteers.
What articles do you plan to focus on? Could you please give a few examples?
We plan to focus on articles about notable youths creating positive impact in the country like Activists, basket ball players etc.
You mentioned in the application that you would work with external partners, but you do not name them. Could we know who these partners are?
We shall be working with Koneta Hub, and Excellence Foundation South Sudan who shall aid in mobilisation and logistical arrangements since they are more familiar with the dynamics of the south sudan youth.
In the core quantitative metrics, you say that there will be 20 new contributions to Wikipedia. What exactly are we talking about? Does that mean that you will create 20 new Wikipedia articles?
I meant 20 articles shall be created on wikipedia
Can we know a bit more about the rewards for the winners please? Will you give prizes in cash or in another form?
The prizes shall be in any form, not limited to cash
thanks alot, for your feedbacks Lomoraronald (talk) 05:32, 18 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
