- Siobhan is highly and effectively active on Wikimedia projects and related open-knowledge projects (iNatualist, Binomia) in this arena and is an exemplary ambassador for us when talking to partner - and potential partner - organisations. She has previously brought representatives of multiple organisations "into the fold" of Wikimedia; and this proposal gives her the opportunity to do so for yet more; bringing in collaborative input and shared data and media far higher in value than the cost of this application. The proposal is sound and accurately and honestly - if modestly - reflects Siobhan's work to date, which additionally always has in mind addressing gender and other imbalances. Support Ambrosia10 is central to the Wikimedia Movement in New Zealand, and has an international reputation: during a month in Europe at Wikimedia Summit and GLAMWiki Europe, and at every Wikimedia chapter I visited, when I said I was from New Zealand everyone would ask after her. Her work in the field of scientific collections goes well beyond the Wikiverse—she's collaborating with scientists and researchers worldwide, developing protocols and co-authoring peer-reviewed papers, and is a great ambassador for the Movement. She also generous in supporting editors in New Zealand by sharing skills and coordinating regular meetups. But at the same time, unlike her collaborators and co-authors, she's a private citizen with no institutional or grant support, doing all this work in her spare time as a volunteer. Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand is only in its first year of funding and doesn't have the budget to support Siobhan attending an international meeting, but she is likely New Zealand's most significant Wikimedian and if anyone is likely to benefit her community and the Movement by taking part in this conference it's her. --Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 23:36, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
Support Ambrosia10 is making significant progress at encouraging and supporting the global natural environment collector and researcher community to understand and engage with Wikimedia Foundation projects. Regular meeting up with participants continues to be key to her progress. Supporting this application is an investment in this highly influential advocate for engagement with and usefulness of Wikidata to this community. I am convinced that a number of projects will eventuate as people connect with the enthusiasm of Ambrosia10 and the influential workflows Ambrosia10 has developed. I fully endorse this proposal. Ambrosia10 is one of the Wikimedia movement's most prolific ambassadors in the field of linked biodiversity data, and she has proven to be successful at inspiring GLAM staff of the value of engaging with Wikimedia platforms and advising them on how to do so (I've seen the effect of her work while interacting with institutions in Australia and the US).
In general, I think it's a great idea to have a few Wikimedia community ambassadors traveling to conferences in specific relevant professional domains, and supporting them in this work (financially, but if needed also with training, for instance). I think it's a great investment, because we meet potential partners in their own context, and we expose Wikimedia work to much broader audiences than through focused Wikimedia-specific events.
