Hello @Jwale2, thank you for submitting this grant proposal and we appreciate your participation in the organizer lab. We have been watching closely at your projects and are motivated by the work do to grow the corpus of knowledge within Wikimedia.

After reviewing your grant our conclusion: At this point, we are recommending not to fund this project in its current state because it doesn’t show a clear use of the skills acquired through the organizer lab or clear and achievable actions that will contribute to the topic/focus area of the program.

General observations:

The proposal is not clear on what this project seeks to accomplish, in certain aspects of the proposal it feels as though you are running just a podcast and in other aspects activities that connect to other existing initiatives.

It seems you have been running a few years of this podcast and are doing such great work with it but as part of the actions from the organizer lab this is not one of the areas of focus for funding (sustainability and climate), also this project does not show a clear sense of how it impacts other organizers, projects or the topic area for the organizer lab.

Reservations:

We are concerned that this project sounds like an ask for support without clearly showing connection and innovation around the topical area of the organizer lab.

The proposal lacks a scope for the direct audience of the project, or what is expected to be impacted by these audiences.

There is a list of connections made to existing projects but we are unable to determine the goals of what the podcast will achieve or how it will contribute to the success of those projects.

Your list of activities does not align with your proposed change and doesn’t easily flow together (synergy), so it's difficult to tell how each activity will help you attain the main project goals. Lastly, your activities don’t align with your budgetary allocations, so it's hard to understand how the line items complement each proposed activity.

What we would like the grantee to improve:

  • As stated in our summary above, this project seems to need more thought and actions to improve its general scope. Unfortunately, we don’t think this amount of work can be done within the time stipulations of the organizer lab so we will recommend that the grantee joins other projects from the Organiser Lab in Ghana to gather some knowledge about structuring topics for impact campaigns.
  • Improve the general scope of the project and create clear achievable goals linked to the topical area of the organizer lab.
  • Provide clear metrics that showcase the podcast's current base of listeners, the approach to gaining new audiences, and how the podcast's initiatives/activities will stimulate the culture of organizing, content contribution, or general curiosity about Wikipedia.
    • Reengagement strategies for new or current listeners who want to take an action or step beyond just listening to the podcast
  • Showcase how the project will utilize skills and knowledge acquired from the organizer lab.
  • Showcase clear quantitative and qualitative measures that interpret the success of the podcast. For example: Is the outcome to get more people to understand climate change and how to contribute via Wikimedia? Is it to change negative perceptions of Wikimedia? Or is it to get more people involved in contests? -- If so then you might want to measure things like, did listeners' perceptions change about Wikipedia, did anyone that started to edit do so because they heard about Wikipedia through the podcast?
