Please explain better. The biggest budget is to pay a coordinator for 12 months only to do "administrative work", is not it? Basically this position will not have direct contact with GLAMs because this task seems to be in charge of the volunteers. At the moment the relation costs/benefits seems to me very low. --Ilario (talk) 10:19, 13 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Packa edit

I am not sure. When I “sum” the work that should the coordinator perform, it looks adequate to 20 hours/week. But I think it will be hard to find a person who will be able to do all these activities (like your Risk # 1). Then some part of coordinator’s work will be done by volunteers.
Moreover, like Ocaasi, I think your Measure of success should be more quantitative. --Packa (talk) 10:36, 13 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Coordinator position edit

You mention, as a risk, the possibility of being unable to find a coordinator with the skills you want at the hourly rate you have identified. Can you expand on how you arrived at the $22/hour rate, which seems low to me? - PKM (talk) 05:44, 5 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

The rate is based on our $25/hour rate for the Summer of Monuments contractor; this is less since it will be a payroll position. I guess the situation is that the scope of the role has evolved but the pay scale has not. I would be eager to hear from Alex about what she considers proper compensation to be. harej (talk) 04:58, 6 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. - PKM (talk) 05:54, 6 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
It's worth pointing out that not being able to find the talent we want is going to be a risk no matter what; just that the risk is higher or lower depending on the requested skill set and the pay scale. I agree that a higher pay may be more conducive in attracting professional talent, but I will want to work with the Foundation on this since it would add considerably to the budget. harej (talk) 23:16, 6 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Measures of success edit

Hi James,

You are halfway there with Measures of Success and making a common overlap between 'metrics' (what you'll measure) and 'measures' which is really specific numerical targets you want to hit that would tell you we hit our goal.

Example:

  • Metric of success: Number of volunteers recruited
  • Measure of success: 60 volunteers recruited

It's challenging to guess what impact may come of all this but it's important in to try and set specific, ambitious but attainable targets.

One note on humility, you leave out all of the great prior work you did with Glam Bootcamp #1! Don't hesitate to mention your great success accelerating the outreach of folks from that group, including the 4 Wikipedia Library organizers!

Otherwise the proposal is looking strong :)

I associated numeric goals with each measure of success. I also expanded the prior success section to include information about what all of our training participants have done. Three of them currently work for the Wikimedia Foundation! harej (talk) 13:23, 10 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

A few questions edit

Hi James,

In principle I like this proposal. In Cascadia Wikimedians User Group it would be valuable for us to have access to someone who is a GLAM expert and who could consult with us periodically.

Can you explain how you arrived at the estimate of 20 hours per week and 1040 hours total?

If this person meets their goals early, are there stretch goals that you could consider for them for the remainder of their hours?

Good luck, --Pine 03:58, 25 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

We're aiming for a year-long period of employment at first because what we found with the Summer of Monuments program is that most of the work in institutional outreach is being able to wait long periods of time to overcome institutional inertia and other such obstacles. We know that continuity over the long term is helpful for these kinds of programs; we do not yet know much labor within a period of time (i.e., how many FTEs) are needed. For the purposes of this pilot, we believe one part-time coordinator will serve our needs. We know that this program requires 0.5 FTE at minimum; this will either be the exact number of hours necessary, or it will be just enough to focus on core duties. With experience we can iterate on this and decide whether part-time work is enough, or if it should be extended to full-time, or if we need two people instead of one, etc. harej (talk) 12:53, 13 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

I have marked this proposal as a draft since we have decided to change the timeline. I will re-open the proposal once the timeline changes. harej (talk) 00:32, 3 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
