  • I would suggest to review the book scanner. How many book scanners are purchased? Usually a device that can be reused for similar projects later, is returned to the wikimedia chapter and pooled for other projects the after completion of this project. Why is this not the case in this project?
  • what is the motivation in this project to hire staff rather then use volunteers? --DerekvG (talk) 15:01, 10 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
@DerekvG:
  • We have six DIY book scanners to be deployed to museum or library. The reason why we do not return them to Wikimedia Chapter is because we believe that the institutions needs it for digitizing. For example, the museum in Yogyakarta has only one flatbed scanner, and we consider to provide the museum a book scanner we purchased to digitize efficiently in the future after this project finished.
  • Regarding to human resources, we decided to hire full-time temporary staff rather than volunteers because they (temporary staffs) will do digitization effort like office staffs in general. We are suggested to hire these staffs to this project to ensure that they are doing as they were told. Volunteers (as we have experienced here) may not be available to do this like the staff do, and we can prevent things that are not desirable. That's our motivation to hire staffs. Thank You 馃懄 Rachmat04, may I suggest that when you leave the scanners at a library that you make sure this is done so that the scanner remains the property of Wikimedia, but is on loan to the library. Conditions to this loan could/would be A) they continue to do digitisation and upload digitized works to Wikisource, provide meta data in Wikidata, B) organise or co-organise with Wikimedia ID regular events to work around digitisation and the recently digitized content (wikiepdia writeups and commons illustrations) and to attract/form new wikipedia contributors and volunteers. I would mention this as an investment for the future a long term collaboration with the library --DerekvG (talk) 16:51, 14 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
@DerekvG: Thank you for your valuable input. We will surely consider both of your suggestions for the project. 路路路 馃懄 Rachmat04 馃挰 17:36, 14 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for the application.

  • Could the budget lines be expressed also in an international currency (US$ or euros鈥攁nd please just rounded to whole units, not cents)?
  • Is it really necessary to have six scanners?
  • What are the unmarked numerals in the "Number of units" column?
  • On what basis are the books chosen? Given the expense of scanning, are there priorities in terms of quality, cultural/historical significance, and likely usage?

Hi @Tony1:
  • Sure. I have added another amount expressed in USD. Please take a look here.
  • Yes, it is. We think that those scanner will be distributed to assigned library in several places in Indonesia: Aceh, Padang (West Sumatra), Yogyakarta, and Jakarta. Actually, this program will cover all activities from these places. However, we have received another request lately from government institution to digitize old literary publications from Balai Pustaka period (still in discussion). We think that if this discussion has already come in agreement, we can use remaining scanner to do that scanning.
  • Revised. Please take a look here again.
  • We choose the books by cultural importances, licenses, and, of course, their quality. As I have stated here, several museums have publications that link to cultural significance. Museum in Yogyakarta has large publication belongs to our Father of Indonesian education, Ki Hadjar Dewantara. They have other collections about Javanese and Malay cultures. In Padang, they are interested to digitize their collections about Minangkabau culture. Museum in Aceh, which has publications of a notable writer and also books about Aceh cultures. Thank you. 路路路 馃懄 Rachmat04 馃挰 10:45, 12 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
