Question edit

Thank you for this clear report! We're glad to see this event met its goals. The report is now accepted!

You mention that there is a hope that "similar local events" would be organized following this event. In the time since the event, do you know of any such events that have taken place? Thanks! Asaf Bartov (WMF Grants) talk 23:32, 17 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello Ijon, you're more than welcome!
The short answer, I believe, is "no, but yes" ;-)
The long answer... I know of two or three events that happened after the meeting and were strongly influenced by it, but I can't say for sure that they wouldn't have been organized without the meeting. What I can say is that Open Science would either not have been a central motive of these meetings, or would have been presented as something narrower, and not as clearly associated with the mission of the Wikimedia Movement. It is significant that these local events I know of happened outside São Paulo, the city where the meeting was held and where I am based. Also, there are future local events being planned by people who joined the working group, for things such as Software Carpentry, Open Data Day, and Open Document day, that I can in fact say would not be happening if it wasn't for this previous mobilization.
Abraço!
