Why is the project manager necessarily male? edit

The description of the project manager says "The project manager will… He will… He will…". What's with the assumption that the project manager will be male, especially given the fact that this is a project to promote women's interests? Ian01 (talk) 19:32, 5 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

No, the project manager may be female, of course. I forgot to add "shes". --Jjkorff (talk) 18:11, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Why stubs? edit

I am surprised that you decided to focus on creating stubs. Is there any particular reason for doing this? I know that there are different editing patterns: some people like creating article from scratch (not necessarily stubs) while others prefer improving stubs created by others. Did you make any research on which pattern is more appealing for female contributors? My guess would be that they may tend to prefer creating articles themselves instead of improving stubs by someone else, but I wonder if anyone had a closer look — NickK (talk) 01:43, 6 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

My experience with knowledge exchange platforms says that most users, male or female, lack the courage to begin a completely new article, to write something to a white paper. It is an easier start to correct a small mistake or to add a small information missing. --Jjkorff (talk) 18:26, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

feedback and comments from Thepwnco edit

@Jjkorff: hello and congratulations on having your grant proposal confirmed as eligible for review! I'd love to hear more details about your project - specifically, what type of activities will the project manager be occupied with during May, June, and July? How will the project manager go about finding 'stub authors'? Where will the list of issues-to-be-developed-into-articles come from? How will stub-editing training be developed and delivered?

Please also note that WMF does not directly fund content-creation (which I believe is what you are proposing with regards to translation for articles). More on this can be found here: Grants:IdeaLab/Inspire/Funding#Eligible_Projects

cheers. -Thepwnco (talk) 22:27, 5 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

3.0
Additional comments from the Committee:
  • The proposed idea could lead to significant impact in principle. Would like to see clearer articulation of the implementation plan for achieving that impact.
  • Focusing on stubs could be a scaffolding strategy for building capacity among editors or increasing content. The process would benefit from greater definition. Consider that targeting so-called female issues could be harmful in terms of perpetuating more gender stereotypes
  • Creating stubs and then inviting women to expand them could have impact on content and involve more women. How would women be engaged the women to get them to edit?
  • Would like to see more developed plan for community engagement or support.
  • Budget would benefit from more detailed description of how it correlates to the plan
  • How will the grantee recruit stub-writing contributors? How will they train new female editors?
  • Would prefer to see volunteers doing content translation.
  • Would like more information about the participant or the project team.
  • Measures could be better spelled out.
  • If this idea is connected with others (like Editathons or "Weeks of...") we could think about massive creation of female stubs.
  • There is a basis for the idea of creating stubs by women and about women as a way of attracting more women by converting women from readers to editors. And translation of articles from one language to another is a viable way to expand content. More planning is needed for successful execution. I would be pleased to see this proposal go forward if they do the needed work.
  • Suggest working with a local group like the German Chapter, Spanish Chapter, or Wikimedia Cascadia (the local groups for the involved editors) to get support for the project.
I am sorry I forgot about my own proposal in the critical days and to answer all your wise questions. I will try to go on with the project in the German Chapter. --Jjkorff (talk) 18:55, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
