Grants talk:APG/Proposals/2012-2013 round1/Wikimedia Sverige/Progress report form/Q2
Please complete this report
editThank you, Jan and Wikimedia Sverige, for your work on this progress report for 2013 Q2.
We noticed that you have not yet signed this report to indicate that it is complete and ready for review, although it appears almost complete. The only information we noticed was missing is the conversion to USD in Table 2 and perhaps some explanations for variances in your projected spending in Table 3 which seem to be currently marked with a placeholder. We would encourage you to complete these fields if possible, before adding your signature to the bottom of this page. Please do let us know if you have any questions about these fields or require any support in this area. We are happy to assist.
Please complete and sign this report so that we may move forward with instructions regarding the next installment of grant funds and with updating your eligibility status to reflect the submission of this report. Best regards from FDC staff, Winifred Olliff (Grants Administrator) talk 17:53, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- Now I have added the missing information and signed the report. Jan Ainali (WMSE) (talk) 06:40, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Appreciation
edit- We congratulate Swedish Wikipedia on passing the one million article mark on June 14!
- Congratulations on the success of WIki Loves Public Art and thank you for sharing the detailed page with lessons learned. We hope these lessons may be useful for many volunteers implementing related projects.
- Thank you for sharing that feedback about the challenges around volunteers using the video equipment and some of the technical barriers they are facing.
- We like your technique for increasing volunteer involvement by including boxes on your project pages to show where volunteer help is most needed.
- We are excited about the development of the matrix to measure next year’s activities and look forward to its implementation.
- We like seeing numbers in the ‘GROWTH’ section of the report that carefully track new users, editors and media through chapter resources. It is encouraging to see clearly what the chapter has facilitated through its work.
Congratulations! KLove (WMF) (talk) 03:09, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
We would like to learn more
editThank you for taking the time to answer our questions about this report. KLove (WMF) (talk) 03:09, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- Congratulations on securing a large grant from the Swedish National Board for Youth Affairs to work on the Gender gap on Wikipedia! We would like more information about the funded program.
- Thank you! You can read more here. In short we will try a series of workshops and editathons all over Sweden working together with the Swedish Women's lobby and their member organisations. We will also assist in setting up a Teahouse on Swedish Wikipedia since it seem to have yielded good results on enwp. Jan Ainali (WMSE) (talk) 14:53, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
- We’re looking forward to learning more about how your microgrants program is working once it is underway. Would you please share a link to the page where grant applications or ideas are submitted and discussed?
- Our page for the microgrants can be found here, and the applications here. Each application is discussed on a separate page. Jan Ainali (WMSE) (talk) 14:53, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
- We understand you are facing challenges around fundraising. Would you share some strategies you are developing to address the current challenges?
- Sure, the following will also be found in the upcoming application:
- We will continue applying for project grants, as of September 17 we have applications who are being reviewed with a value in total over 2 million SEK. We are getting better at applying and also start to get a library of useful material, meaning that applications take shorter time to create.
- We have recently been doing an investigation on the matters of how we can receive money for work we do without risking our for-the-coomon-good tax exemption status. It has been very good and we expect to be able to easier have partnerships where we do not bear all the costs. We find this a major success and based on requests ths year it might be enough to fund one FTE.
- We will start to better advertise that we accept donations. Today we are quite anonymous and we expect to increase private donation with a factor 5 that way.
- We are investigating in what ways we might be eligble funding as a popular education movement. If successful that can lead to really long-term financial sustainability.
- We will try to grow our membership, this will lead to an increase in membership fees, but more importantly give us more contacts and find where funds are available.

- We note your Education Program is winding down. Please share more about the Board and Staff’s reasoning behind this strategic and programmatic shift.
- Perhaps my comment were not entirely clear. While the Wikipedia Education Program is less intense, the program Free knowledge in Education is still rocking. The SFI-project is finally taking off, WikiSkills is continuing and Women of Wikipedia is planning for synergies with education in general. Also, perhaps ‘intense’ were not really clear. Since we made a lot of work the spring, we do not have to be as intense (in terms of wages) to keep it rolling. We have several Wikipedia ambassadors that only need support, several board members are doing things in education (as volunteers) and we also got an volunteer on 0.4 FTE that is going to be with us all autumn in the Education program. So with less intense we mainly meant by money spent. --Jan Ainali (WMSE) (talk) 13:48, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot for all of these detailed comments and learning you've shared here. It's great to hear about the progress being made in fundraising since we all know it's a real challenge! And I appreciate the clarification on the Education / Free Knowledge programs. Very helpful! Thanks, Jan! KLove (WMF) (talk) 18:09, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
