Some explanations about my changes edit

I explain here in details the modifications I’ve done on Grants:APG/Calendar and associated templates. So in addition of the beautiful and easily navigable template, it has a nice wikisyntax and is translatable.

1. Simplification of the template

I factorized the informations in the cells [1] and made use of the #time parser function; so the inputs are:

  • the date of the form "2013-01-08" [2] and it displays it in the specified language and specified format.
  • the page when given to create a link with; this factorizes the syntax #ifexist that were before in Template:APG/Calendar/Table in each line.

There is another small case for exceptions (when there is no letter of intent).

2. Translation

All the translations are in the template Template:APG/Calendar/i18n and subpages by language (/en, /fr, etc.); this template is a "database": you give a key (often the English string itself) and it returns the translated string. It has to be called with {{APG/Calendar/i18n/{{{lang|en}}}|waived}}.

There is some additionnal parameters for the periods: {{ APG/Calendar/i18n/{{{lang|en}}} | {{{public note 1|Period}}} | {{#time:{{APG/Calendar/i18n/{{{lang|en}}}|DayMonth}}|{{{public begin 1}}}|{{{lang|en}}}}} | {{#time:{{APG/Calendar/i18n/{{{lang|en}}}|DayMonth}}|{{{public 1}}}|{{{lang|en}}}}} }}: this uses the translation of the "period" with the two parameters needed for the period.

Note that if there are notes (parameters "public note #" and "recommendation note #" in Grants:APG/Calendar), these will be displayed instead of the period (parameters "public #" and "public begin #", and similar for recommendation) and translated if possible (obviously, if there is no translation, it will be displayed in English).

I do hope this make sense; the templates in wikisyntax are often a bit hard to read and I try to search the best ways to easily handle the translations without complicating too much the templates (see my extensive monologue since October), but on the other side I do find it is very important to have at least the basic informations translated.

Some changes edit

We made some minor changes to this calendar template:

  1. To make sure dates and links to documents are up-to-date
  2. To shorten and simplify some language and date ranges where available, for consistency and to make the table prettier
  3. We broke out deliberations and recommendation into two separate items, since they do happen at different times

In the process, I may have weakened some of the translatability of the template, so if a translation guru wants to come along and fix that up they are most welcome.
