After carrying out an online survey on how well students and existing Nigerian wikimedia editors, make use, edit and contribute to wikibooks. This is the link for the reponses obtained [1].From the responses it shows only few editors are aware of wikibooks and those that are aware and edit on wikibooks, have little to no knowledge on how make high quality edit on wiikibooks and thus creating a significant knowledge gap.

This project is targeted at laying a solid foundation for the widespread use and adoption of wikibooks among editors in Nigeria and also bridging the content gap about Nigeria local indigenous cultures[2],arts and cuisines which contains little to no content on wikibooks and thus enhacing the need for this areas to be greatly improved.

Through this project we hope to engage and train new and existing wikimedia editors to enable them become experienced wikibooks editor,acquire basic editing and researching skills that will enable them create new articles and improve existing articles about Nigeria's indigenous culture's and local cuisines on wikibooks

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

  • One Physical training and edit a thon alongside online contest.
  • Organizing a Physical Training and edit a thon: This event training will takes place in an organized atmosphere where participants will be trained by experience volunteer facilitators with the use of effective teaching aids which includes projector, slides and Wikibooks training resources on how to make basic edits ,searching and retrieval of information on Wikibooks, proofreading, creating and improving articles that will immensely bridge the gap of Nigerian local cultures ,arts and cuisines on wikibooks. Followed by an edit a thon session where I and my facilitators will provide mentorship and guidiance to the participants to enable them become better wikibooks editors. Towards the end of the event we will be awarding participants with personalized certificate of excellence as this is an excellent way to recognize their hardwork and achievement. This event will end with an online contest where top 3 contributors will be awarded gift vouchers as incentive to encourage participation in other wiki events.

I have informed the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria Community via their discussion page,explaining the goals and objective of this project on the link here[3]

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

  • The target participants are youths,students and existing wikimedian editors.
Awareness:To inform both new and existing Wikimedian editors we will sharing and distributing E flyers to the designated platform of target participants as this will serve as a forum to generate interest in the event, this will also offer a comprehensive way to reach our target audience. Additionally this will enable us create a Whatsapp group for whose generate interest in the upcoming event. Adequate information will be passed through the created whatsapp group to inform, remind and give regular updates about the commencement of the event

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Yes the participnats have the required skills and equipment which includes,Mobile phones and laptops to enable them make and contribute effectively and efficiently on Wikibooks.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

After the Event: we will be working to ensure sustainability of the participants by having them join as community members of Wikimedia User Group Nigeria as this will keep them posted and foster participation in other and wiki events.Additionally,participants will be added to a whatsapp group for follow up and ongoing support.we will conduct a post event survey to identify areas for improvement.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

The content of this proposal will help prioritize bridging the content gap by creating and Improving articles about Nigeria's cultures and cuisines, documenting them on Wikibooks.By making this information available and accessible to anyone there by promoting knowledge equity aligned with the Wikimedian movement strategies.

  • Kingaustin07(Project Lead):I am an experienced Wikimedian editor and trainer,with an extensive capacity and experience to lead this project.I have participated and won online wikibooks contest and other wikipedia online campaign activities and edit a thon which includes, Nigerian cuisine, Nigerian expenditure etc.
  • Sylvesterchukwu04(Co Facilitator):He is an experienced editor and trainer on wikipedia. He co facilitated and trained editors during wikivoyage for Lagos State Local Government Offices and Secretariat's. He has participated and won series of Wikimedian contest awhich includes Nigerian Cuisine whose project focus was on wikibooks, Nigerian musuem amongst others. He will be providing his volunteer support to co-facilitate this event.
  • Favkinstin27(logistics and Communication): He is an experienced Wikimedian editor and a trainer.He has won major Wikibooks edit a thon which includes Nigerian Cuisine etc. He will be providing his volunteer support under technical capacity to co facilitate this event and also in charge of Logistics and Communications.
