Project summary

edit

Briefly summarize your project proposal.

Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State in northeastern Nigeria, is a city with a rich cultural heritage and historical significance. Founded in the early 20th century, it has been a major center of trade, education, and Islamic culture. The city's cultural richness is evident in its historic sites, traditional markets, and vibrant community life. However, in recent years, Maiduguri has been significantly affected by the Boko Haram insurgency crisis, leading to economic challenges and disruptions in daily life. Despite these hardships, the city is on a path to recovery and development, with efforts being made to rebuild and revitalize its communities and infrastructure. The Wiki Loves Earth Photowalk in Maiduguri aims to capture this resilience and the enduring beauty of the city. The project will organize a photowalk to document Maiduguri's historical and cultural sites, providing global visibility to its unique features and aiding in the digital preservation of its heritage. The images will be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and integrated into relevant Wikipedia articles, enhancing their content and reach. Some target Places, Shehu's Palace, Maiduguri Monday Market, University of Maiduguri, Borno State Museum, Maiduguri Central Mosque, Ramat Square, Sanda Kyarimi Park, El-Kanemi Warriors Stadium, Lake Alau, Maiduguri Railway Station, Baga Road Market, Dikwa Heritage Sites, Chad Basin National Park, Gwange Area, Old Maiduguri Town
