  • The Wikimedia community is launching a global photography contest called "WikiLovesEarth" to showcase natural heritage locations worldwide. The campaign aims to promote environmental awareness, encourage photography and citizen participation, enrich Wikimedia Commons with Nsukka natural photos, and document the beauty and diversity of Nsukka natural heritage. The project will involve documenting Nsukka natural heritage sites, engaging amateur and professional photographers, and promoting community engagement through activities like photo walks, Training/workshops and editathon. The expected outcomes include increased awareness, enhanced Wikimedia Commons, strengthened connections within the community, and support for conservation efforts.

For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

In my group we have discussed on the campaign title and it has be agreed on that new comers/intake such like volunteers and photographers will be added to the wikipedia community whatsapp platform in my school university of Nigeria Nsukka where further information will be passed.

Yes I do have great experienced wikimedia editors that can lead the event; such people are as follows:

User:Ngozi osadebe Dr. Ngozi Osadebe joined the wikipedia in the year 2017 and she has been organizing several campaign in my school and beyond.
User:Ugoji.john Joined the wikipedia in the year 2022 and he has been a facilitator in several campaign in my school and beyond.
Ngozi Stella Udechukwu Joined the wikipedia in the year 2022 and she has been a facilitator in several campaign in my school and beyond.

5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Yes. Most of the people I plan to use for this campaign have computer and cameral with high resolution and also the school library have many computer systems we can hire from incase any of the participant needs one. And in the aspect of participants having this required skill for the campaign, I plan to carry everybody along by training all the participants in editing and uploading pictures in wiki commons.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

Yes we have a community whatsapp platform and i will also add the new comers/intake for the campaign which the whatsapp platform will be the base ground for our communication incase any difficulty found when editing.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project? I intend in this project to do the following: Yes. I believe this project will be a continuation of the Deforestation project which our team carried out in Nsukka in the year 2023 which we captured nsukka forest and it deforestation and uploaded it in wikicommons. While this current campaign is on Wiki Love Earth and it capture Nsukka natural heritage and sites.

MONTH 1

Planning Phase (Week 1) Form Organizing Committee: Calling a meeting to establish a team of volunteers and Wikimedia community members that will help the coordinator to make the project a success.

Identify Partners: Collaborate with volunteers and photographers club and Compile a comprehensive list of eligible participates for the campaign.

Preparation Phase (Week 2) Outreach to Photographers: Committee members engage photographers communities and encourage participation for the workshop and training.

Workshop/ Training Phase(1) (Week 3) Organize Workshop/ Training for 50 persons: Host training workshop to train participants what is expected from them and how to upload pictures on Wikimedia.

Month 2 Judging Phase (Week 1)

1. Assemble Judging Panel: Form a panel of experts in photography, environmental conservation, and Wikimedia projects.

2. Review Submissions: Evaluate the submissions based on predefined criteria such as quality, originality, and relevance.

3. Select Winners: Identify the top photographs in various categories (e.g., best photo, best macro shot, most unique perspective).

Awarding/Closing ceremony Phase (Week 2)

1. Announce Winners: Publicly announce the winners.

3. Sustain Engagement: Encourage continued participation in Wikimedia projects and environmental conservation efforts.

4. Evaluate and Report: Assess the campaign success, gather feedback, and document lessons learned.
