editAbout me
editI've been an active wiki editor and sysadmin for several years. More recently I've been doing consulting work for primarily nonprofit organizations on a variety of services - including MediaWiki deployment and support. I'm also the founder and lead administrator of WikiQueer and the lead at the nonprofit incubator developing the project. I've recently been getting more involved with MediaWiki development community. Specifically developing social media extensions - such as AddThis, TweetANew and WikiShare - and enhancing documentation and support for extension developers (see mw:Project:WikiProject Extensions) and third-party wiki sysadmins (see mw:Project:WikiProject SysAdmins).
About me at this event
editWould like to attend the San Francisco Hackathon to interact with and further establish collaborations with other MediaWiki developers as well as work towards the tasks outlined in the next section.
Not aware of any Hackathon specific scholarships and will not otherwise be able to attend.
Planned tasks
editDuring the Hackathon I intend to focus on:
- Development of WikiShare extension - specifically for possible deployment on WMF projects already utilizing similar features (such as enWikinews)
- Further development of other social media related extensions both for third-party and possible WMF usage
- Begin review of all extensions on MW.org for compatibility with current and next release - tag using new mw:Template:Incompatible
- Documentation on this process
- Consideration of ways to automate in the future
- Learn more about MediaWiki's API and Wikimedia Labs projects
- Improvements to MediaWiki.org documentation
- Other tasks related to improvements of MediaWiki.org wiki
- Brainstorming on software and wiki solutions for MediaWiki software related volunteer recruitment, training and retention
- Increase understanding of WMF platform and hackathon organizing/planning for similar gatherings at LGBT events and Detroit area Hackathon - as well as possible DC/NYC chapter fundraisers
- Possible preparation for Grants:Varnent/CreatingChange2012 the following week
