Proposed Participation edit

I’ve been contributing to Wikimedia projects for a long time. I take care of Catalan localization and I am sysadmin of Amical Wikimedia (in a voluntary basis). On the MediaWiki technical side [1], I’m the current maintainer of UserFunctions extension and I’ve also been contributing to some other ones. Moreover, as part of my job in a research centre, I deploy and customize MediaWiki instances and I develop custom extensions which enable MediaWiki to fit to different specific needs.

I’ve been attending SMWCon Fall for many years as a way to keep up-to-date to new advances in this technology. In order to help MediaWiki community continue growing I felt I should give back more to the community and I thought that preparing a beginner’s developer tutorial [2] could be a good idea and also challenging at the personal level.

Goal and Expected Impact edit

My aim is helping that attendees may become extension contributors in the future. Generated resources (e.g. slides, notes and code) will be open-access and open-source and I intend to use them in upcoming technical events in Barcelona, such as a 2nd edition of BCN Technical Hackaton ( last year's one ) or in popular technical afterwork evening meetups I normally participate.

On the other hand, I’m also very interested in knowing more about WikiData, which will be a key topic in many different sessions during the conference and tutorial day. Concerning this point, I would also be interested to spread what I will learn about among my closer wikipedian and local developer communities.

Other sources of funding edit

I will pay for my own accommodation expenses.

Centre for Genomic Regulation [3], my research centre, will pay for my conference registration fees and any other additional expenses, such as transportation in Berlin and meals not included in the conference.
