Budget breakdown
edit- Travel: USD 300 - round-trip coach flight from Pittsburgh to Boston
- Accommodation: USD 169 per night x 3 nights = USD 507
Note: I will also apply for travel funding for this trip from the History of Science Society (which usually has National Science Foundation grant funds available to independent scholars such as myself), to cover any additional expenses and/or reduce the amount of reimbursement I request from WMF.
Proposed Participation
editI'll be running a Wikipedia workshop, in which I will go over the state of history of science coverage on Wikipedia and help conference attendees get started on Wikipedia. I will also cover the Wikipedia Education Program and show professors how they can use Wikipedia assignments in their classes to help improve Wikipedia content.
Goal and Expected Impact
editI expect to recruit a number of professional historians of science to begin contributing to Wikipedia and/or assigning their students to do so; recruiting through workshops of professional societies has been effective in the recent past at bringing in professors to the Wikipedia Education Program. I will use the recruitment campaign features so that we can analyze the activity of this cohort of new recruits later on.
