Option 3: New Creation: What was one useful outcome that was created at the event for the Wikimedia movement?

Add a link to something new that was created as a result of your participation in this event (for example, you might link to a new tool that you and your co-participants worked on at the Hackathon, or to pages created in a workshop you participated in).

Just before a week of Wikimania, some of us from the Odia Wikimedia community, founded a nonprofit called O Foundation that is dedicated to grow Openness, and Diversity and Inclusion in STEM. This additional hat helped me to connect many friends that are working on marginalized languages and communities, and there is a research that is shaping up to contribute towards coming Wikimania.

Connections

• WhoseKnowledge?: Discussion on collaboration for the future research and development for marginalized languages and communties
• Wikitongues: We collaborated in hosting a kiosk at the Community Village. It led to many discussions with Wikimedians across the world that are contributing towards preservation of indigenous culture using Wikimedia platforms as a tool.
• Rising Voices of Global Voices: Rising Voices is an initiative that explores the use of internet tools to promote and revitalize languages. Eddie Avila, who is a long time friend and mentor was a participant and co-panel at at panel discussion that was organized by Wikimedia Canada at BANQ. Him and I discussed the opportunity to take the initiatives for marginalized languages beyond Wikimania. Hopefully, we will be organizing a panel to discuss the issues with native languages across the world during the upcoming Global Voices Citizen Summit 2017 at Colombo, Sri Lanka.
• Wikimedia Indigenous Languages meetup: A long discussion with colleagues that are either contributing towards preservation or are speakers of indigenous languages. There is a chance of reviving this almost defunct working group.
