Outcome
editOption 3: New Creation: What was one useful outcome that was created at the event for the Wikimedia movement? My main field of interest, both professionally and Wikipedia related is copyright in the GLAM field. The most useful thing I learned during the hackathon at Wikimania is writing SPARQL queries and stripping and importing databases to Wikidata. As a result of this, I have written a query that indicates which artists are a member of a collective rights organisation. Also, with the help of some more advanced Wikidata experts, we were able to upload the database of the Dutch collective rights association and mix n' match this with the artist names in Wikidata (the database can be found here). As a result of this, we are now able to see whether or not an artist is associated with a collective rights organisation, wich is valuable information for people working in the GLAM field and needing to know more about copyright or who to contact about releasing an image on one of the Wiki-projects. The next couple of months I will strive to add more collective rights societies member databases to Wikidata, to make the data more complete and accurate. Also, I want to expand the query I wrote to find artists that are being represented by a collective society, but have a date of death that should grant a public domain qualification and therefore can be published on wiki. The research into the member databases of the collecting societies showed that this is the case for several artists in the records.
Connections
editThroughout the conference, I kept a journal of the activities I participated and the people I met there. When writing my conference journal, I was surprised by how many there were, how they took place and any time of day all the time and of what great quality they were. Out of all this great encounters, I especialy valued the ones with people working on Wikidata, since I am really excited about this project and will be working with it a lot these coming month. It was very valuable to get a lifeline with the people developing Wikidata and meeting them face to face.
Anything else
editI will try to upload my pictures to Commons a.s.a.p.
