Welcome back from Wikimania 2018!

New Creation: What was one useful outcome that was created at the event for the Wikimedia movement?
Add a link to something new that was created as a result of your participation in this event (for example, you might link to a new tool that you and your co-participants worked on at the Hackathon, or to pages created in a workshop you participated in).

Aside from generally working on tasks related to my main projects (the Timeless and WikiProject X grants), I also created logos for various projects throughout the conference. Most of them, or versions of them, are linked on the tracking task (phab:T199882).

I talked to various people about my projects and theirs in order to gain a better understanding of how they all need to fit together (important because my projects generally revolve around the skins that tie it all together), but of everything, what stood out the most was one hackathon newcomer whose expectations for just how one might go about editing or creating a skin were just so completely different from my own. A visual editor, essentially. Something along the lines of... maybe dreamweaver, for wikis? I'm not even sure how to describe it, having never used anything like that myself.

We may have a problem, because we're years and years away from ever having anything like that, and yet such visual development environments are precisely the direction expectations seem to be going in these types of things.

Anything elseEdit

The 24-hour hackathon room was probably the most valuable thing for me - especially when we wound up with folks besides hackers there. Possibly relatedly, never discount an impromptu 4am dance party complete with laptops, tables, and meat snacks as a place where people can do some amazing actual work at the same time.
