Outcome

Option 1: Shared Experience: What is one way you shared something from your experience with your community (either locally or globally), after the event?

I am currently still working on one or two blog posts regarding the outcomes of some of the Discussion Room sessions. Especially the session collecting different approaches towards conflict resolution (Discussion Room 7a) seems suitable for that. When that is ready, I plan to submit it for the WMF blog and possibly spread it a bit towards communities too. I am considering whether it would be helpful to write something to follow up on my presentation, this is still only under consideration.

Option 2: Learning Pattern: What is one useful learning pattern you can share with the Wikimedia movement?

No formal 'learning patterns' within the framework of that programme have been created. I had great discussions though, and had some interaction (which I expect to continue) with people regarding the organisation of Wiki Loves Monuments in the future, and what support could be needed for that. We also learned some valuable lessons on how to organise Discussion Rooms in a large Wikimedia conference, and plan to implement that for next year, in Esino Lario.

Option 3: New Creation: What was one useful outcome that was created at the event for the Wikimedia movement?

No tangible outcomes were created during the conference, besides a prezi presentation regarding what Wikimedia can learn from science funding systems.

Connections

During my presentation, around 30-60 people attended, although it was my impression that this audience missed out some of the key players in this field from the WMF. The same was true for the Discussion Room, where in total probably around 100-150 people attended the discussion sessions (which was less than aimed for) with some key players missing (i.e. in the education sessions).

I made a special effort to keep meeting new people during the breaks, rather than stick around with people I already know (which is easy after several years participation). The behavioural problems in editing communities was a returning issue in such discussions, and the way that different communities experience this in a different way, and approach it differently as well. This ranges from problems with the proper functioning of conflict resolution (arbitration, for example), the role of the WMF/chapters in this and online harrassment and their connection with the number of issues around a non-diverse community (not only the obvious gender-diversity, but maybe even more educationally and ethnically).

The main outcomes of my participation in the 2015 Wikimania lie in 1) my presentation about what Wikimedia can learn from science funding systems on Friday morning and 2) my involvement with the Discussion Room sessions.
