Organising a Wikimedia and role of WMF
Though this might be very naive and others might tend to overlook it , I had to tell the organising of the event was crystal clear .I had a warm welcome by wikimania volunteers from Milan airport on june 21st. There were no confusions in the plan trip as the information from Local organising team were perfect. We reached Esino lario on 21st eve with fellow participants on a bus trip and the subsequent 5 days were clearly planned from registering to the send off. So , the learning for me was , even when WMF was supporting from outside , the entire planning was managed by the local team which I think is the first time .
Scope of Educational Projects My expectation on Educational projects were more as I am a Professor . The 24th , session of Wikimedia educational projects was interesting as people shared their experiences. Many were of the view that we must not go to the teachers to make them motivate their students to edit wiki. But we must inspire the teachers to look up at wiki projects for their students studies and development. Some of them shared their local national educational system issues which are hindering them in the initiative which was felt closer to me as i too feel the same issues.
Building a local ecosystem around Wikipedia Being a grassroots level activits and outreach enthusiast On 25th , the going beyond editing to innovation in wikipedia projects introduced the challenges in attracting new people and how different language people had different scenario was a case of study for me connecting my own experience with it.On 23rd , I attended a workshop on engaging local wikipedians as it interested me to take same kind of initiative in my place. This actually gave a further insight on what could be emulated in my place .
