Outcome
edit- Option 1: Shared Experience: What is one way you shared something from your experience with your community (either locally or globally), after the event?
- After some years being in Wikimania as staff member of a chapter or member of the FDC, I participated again in Wikimania as a volunteer, being an opportunity to reconnect with some of the discussions our movement is having. I participated in some of the open discussions with Board members, particularly regarding Finances and Board composition.
- I also participated in the round table regarding the so-called "Global South". There, I was one of the very few participants coming from developing communities so I had the chance to bring the voice of our community to the global discussion. I think it was very important to mention there the relevance of seeing our movement as a multi-lingual community and not use English as the only way to communicate between us (and, in case it is used, understand that not all people are native English speakers and not are able to express the same way they would do in their own languages).
- Also, I was able to share some of the things happening in Wikimania through my personal Twitter account and Facebook page. Here are some of the public tweets about Wikimania [1] [2] [3] [4]
- I expect also to share some of those discussions and experiences in the next General Assembly of Wikimedia Chile.
Connections
editI had the opportunity to reconnect with several members of our community. First and foremost, I engaged with the people from Iberocoop, especially Wikimedia Argentina and Wikimedia Mexico, to continue the regional work we have been doing since 2010.
Also, I had the opportunity to talk with Katherine Maher, the new Executive Director of the Wikimedia Foundation, regarding the outcomes of the so-called "Global South" discussion, and with Christophe Henner, the new Chair of the Board of Trustees about his vision for the movement in the following years.
Finally, I had the chance to talk with some members of Wikimedia Srbija to see the possibilities for a future project together. At the beginning I was thinking something similar to the 1001 Arabic words project, but they told me about the potential challenges, so we will start looking for opportunities to work together and develop a project between both communities.
